"Write about coming out of the dark and seeing the light. "
______________________________________________________________
It is dark; surrounded by blinding darkness, you could have your eyes wide open yet, you cannot see anything. You reach out with nervous hands and almost heave a sigh of relief as you feel the familiar walls. It is a small room around six feet by eight feet and though you often use it, the darkness surrounding you, makes a stranger out of the room.
Pressing your palm against the solid wall, you wait for a few seconds, even as you nerve cells go on a reflex mode, though the eyes would take time to adjust to the darkness around you, at least five to seven minutes before you gain partial visibility. You blink, hoping to be able to see, and then decide to risk it, one hesitant step after the other, groping along the wall to the door, which would be a couple of feet away. You never knew how nervous you were till you let out a breath of relief as you fumbling fingers touch the latch of the door. With quick movements you unlock the door , savouring the crack of light that soon turns bright when you pull open the door and step out of the bathroom into the well lit room.
You close your eyes, an involuntary reaction, and in a few seconds your eyes have acclimatised to the brightness. Opening your eyes, you curse the bathroom bulb which had to die on you and leave you in pitch darkness for a few tense minutes.
A tiny span of time, where despite the familiarity of the place, the absence of light left you apprehensive; a journey of few steps which makes you grateful for the light in your life.
