"Write about an experience you've had at a gas station or convenience store."

Since we do not have convenience stores in the strictest sense, I shall write about supermarkets, you know those where you have all sorts of groceries, fruits and vegetables? And it will be a generic piece, for though I do not have any memorable or unforgettable experiences, I will write about my fascination with these supermarkets.

Oh, yes, you have read it correct, I am fascinated and captivated by them, I can spend hours browsing around, seeing all the products that are on sale though I might not buy much, maybe some fruits or vegetables or milk or bread. However, I love going around them, the bigger they are the better, so that I can slowly walk down the aisles, noting down the various products. The variety is mind boggling, and I often wonder who consumes them, name a category and you would be spoilt for choice, be it soaps, or cleaning brushes (I mean, do we really need to have a dozen varieties of them, each looking identical to the next one?) or jams or coffee powders, the list is endless. Of course, they usually also would not stock some local or commonly available stuff (e.g. betel nut powder, somehow most supermarkets look down on this product so it became tough to buy a packet when we had an aunt over, who liked having a tiny spoon after meals).

Supermarkets have a charm of their own, and are convenient for they do stock a reasonable range of products (including a few basic items of stationery, cookware and crockery too). So it is fun to browse through and a decent way to while away the time; which compensates for the fact that the 'fresh' produce is more often than not 'frozen' produce, the price of convenience and ease of shopping, I guess.

Short piece, as I am short of time and though fascinated with supermarkets, I really cannot write much unless I start listing out the available products and the varieties of each.
