"Go people watching and write an ode to a stranger you see on the street."

She walks by as though she is lost,
Not young a child, not old a woman,
Dressed casually yet walking wearily
Her earbuds glued to her ears.
I wonder what songs she listens to
I ponder what thoughts she thinks
Is she happy and tired after a long day
Or simply weary with life?
I should not stare but cannot help watch her,
As she walks with her eyes on the mobile screen;
Interested in the texts she gets,
Rather than focus on the road ahead.
I wonder who she is, a daughter only or a sister too,
Maybe a lover or a wife and a mother also?
What hopes she carries, what dreams she has,
And was the day kind to her or did she have it rough?
Would it be a home and a mother welcoming her,
or would it be a cold hostel room and dark inside?
Who is she I will never know, I might never even cross paths with her,
A stranger I see one evening and a stranger evermore.
