💆Being Used💆

Dear Boo,

I have this friend, Shontae*, who asked me to help her write part two of her book. I read part one so I had a clear view of what she needed help with. I deemed the book as a good story, so I agreed to help her with the next update.

When I told Shontae* I would help her, she told me she started the next update and needed help with it and sent me the link. She only wrote one paragraph and wants me to continue. It's a very short paragraph with errors.

[*I'm not including this paragraph with this because the writer could be identified, but I did read it myself.*]

Here is my dilemma—

I feel as though she wants me to write her entire book, it has me feeling some type of way.

I really don't mind helping her, but I don't want to write her whole book for her.

How do I tell Shontae*, in the nicest way possible, that I don't want to write her book for her I'm only here to help?

Thanks for helping,

Tink*

Dear Tink*,

First and foremost, thank you for writing in to me with your issue with Shontae*.

While reading your dilemma I automatically felt that she is using you to write her entire book pretty much.

The paragraph you sent me was very short and isn't even edited. It seems like she doesn't really care about this second book. If she did, she would write it herself.

I understand asking for help, that's perfectly fine and so is co-writing, as long as they other person helps!

Explain to her that you will help when needed, but you can't do much. You have your daily life, your family and you're an author as well. If you focus all your attention on another book, you will begin slacking on your own. I know you don't want that.

You have such a big heart and you don't need to let anyone take advantage of you.

I would write a few paragraphs or half of the chapter, then send it back to her and tell her to continue it out.

If she complains about you not writing more then you know her true intentions.

I hope thing go well dear and you and Shontae* come to an agreement. If not then let her do it alone. If she is your true friend, she will not get mad. But if she gets mad, then you will see who she really is.
