WARNING
SUICIDE IS MENTIONED IN THIS FOR A SPLIT SECOND.
EVEN THOUGH IT'S NOT THE MAIN TOPIC, I'M STILL POSTING A WARNING!
♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

Dear Boo,

I have a suicidal friend, Selena*. She has been trying to kill herself for sometime now, because she has very bad breath (aka Halitosis).

She cleans her teeth twice daily, but to no avail.

When we were kids it wasn't this bad. When she turned 14 she told me about it, because we are best friends.

I have had four boyfriends, now that we're nineteen, but she hasn't had any.

I've helped her look for solutions online. We've came up with baking soda and lemon, but it's still the same.

We even went to a dentist! He told her the usual mouth care, the normal.

Selena* is really depressed. I have told her the right man would coma along, but she says no one will want her because of her bad breath.

I really don't know ow what to say it her. She calms it down with mi ty sweets, buy they just don't work.

Any advice?

Sincerely,
Daisy*

🌼 Dear Daisy*,

Thanks for writing in for advice! It's great that Selena* has a caring friend like you.

Bad breath, or bad teeth, can lower anyone's confidence. A smile is one of the first thing someone notices. Another thing is how a person smells.

When someone retracts away from someone due to their breath, it's not personal. Our brain is wired to do this. It sounds silly, but our brain thinks someone is trying to kill us with a bad scent. (I will provide pics of this at the end.)

If this was myself personally I would visit another dentist. The smell could be from cavities, possible gum disease (gingivitis) and many more things. When people get sick (cold and even diarrhea) it can affect our breath.

Some things she can try will be in pics below. When she cleans her teeth she must clean her whole mouth.

—Use a good toothpaste, try to find one specifically for bad breath.

—Buy a good toothbrush, the battery powered ones are best. Brush for two minutes, twice a day (at least) and probably after eating. Food can get stuck between teeth and around the gum line.

—Flossing is a MUST! Use floss after brushing and everytime you eat.

—When you brush your teeth also brush your tongue. Bacteria stays on a tongue like crazy. A lot of the battery powered toothbrushes have a tongue cleaner on the back, if not you can buy it separately.

—Try to avoid sugary foods and drinks.

As far as the boyfriend part... This may not be the reason Selena* hasn't had a boyfriend. She needs to love herself and be confident. It's hard to do that with an odor coming from her mouth. When approaches guys tell her to chew sugar free gum, mints that are strong (like altoids or Ice Breakers).

I'm mostly concerned about her depression and suicidal tendencies. This can be fixed.

Suicide is NOT  reversible! —

There is that perfect spouse for everyone. Some may not believe me, but it's true. When the time is right, she will meet her *one*.

For her depression, I highly recommend a therapist. If she isn't comfortable talking with a stranger then have her speak to someone she can trust. I don't mind one bit to talk with her.
