Chapter 38

With the pen in his hand, Light leaned forward. His arms were stretched and his hands were supporting his body on the edge of the table. The note was between his hands. He couldn't stop staring at it. You could see that despite the hair that was covering half of his face.

"Light!" You brought out in a surprised but scared tone. When the other detectives realized what was going on, no one could stay calm anymore.

There was tension in the room and your heart started racing.

"Light, what are you doing??" His father confusedly asked him, hoping that his son was not going to use the note. Light was just acting calm. He seemed to think about what he was going to do next. Maybe he was checking if there were any negative outcomes about his plan that could affect him in a bad way.

A moment later he finally lifted his head, took a look at everyone in the room, before he let go of the table and stood straight, the pen still in his hand. "I'm going to prove to all of you that (Your fake name) is using a fake name. Not just as an alias, but as her real name too. She is hiding her real identity even from us..." He took a break before he continued: "Tell me, can we trust someone who even lies about their name to us?" He asked and then turned to you. "I can't trust you at all, (Your fake name). Maybe you are a criminal that investigators are after, but we can't know that since you are hiding your true name... What about you is real?" Light was very serious.

"You aren't going to write my name on the death note to test your theory, are you??" You asked him in shock. You knew that you wouldn't die because he spoke the truth. Your name was fake, but you were afraid of the consequences. Once Light proved one of his suspicions, the detectives were more likely to believe that the rest he said might be true. That would make you lose the battle and Light win. And everything afterward would get worse for you...

"Light are you crazy? What if it IS her real name and you kill her by that??" Matsuda was worried. "I'm willing to take that risk. I'm very certain that she won't die." Light was very determined. "What about you?" His father pointed out. "Using the note to write down a name might kill you in 13 days. Do you want to take that risk as well??" Even for that, Light had an explanation: "Not if I write a name without killing the person. Since (Your fake name) won't die, I will not be affected by that rule." Light seemed to know a lot about that rule... You asked yourself if what he said was actually true or if he was just calm because the dying-after-13-days-of-writing-a-name rule was fake after all...
"It is my real name!" You couldn't think of something else to say that would stop him from trying to write down your fake name. "No, it's not." Light calmly replied before he turned his gaze back to the note and lifted his hand a moment later. A clicking sound appeared when Light opened the pen and you could see his hand direct the pen towards an empty page of the opened note. Then everything happened so fast and before you realized it, you were running towards Light and jumped on him. The book flew away from the table and you and Light fell hard on the floor. "The book!!!" Matsuda screamed out and ran to it. He was scared that it would get damaged and everyone who ever touched it would die. Light was surprised and mad at the same time. He grabbed you to push you away, but you bit into his hand. You bit really hard and made him scream. He tried to get up but you tried your hardest to prevent him from getting to the book and finish what he had planned. You acted faster than the others in the room. A few moments later your fight was interrupted by Mr. Yagami and Aizawa who ran to the two of you. Aizawa grabbed you and pulled you away from Light, who was held by Mogi.

"ENOUGH OF THIS NON SENSE!!!" The chief was mad. He went over and took the note from Matsuda. "This stays with me!" He informed. "And you two will be locked away until we figure what we should do with you.." Aizawa added and exchanged looks with the chief, who nodded in agreement to Aizawa's suggestion.
