3rd Person Pov:
"Ira!" A young male voice exclaimed. The jackal turned around to see a wolf running up to him. The jackal smiled seeing his best friend run up to him as he continued to play on the swings. "Gadget!" The jackal exclaimed as he slowed down his pace. "What are you up to today?" The wolf asked, carefully walking to the side of the swings. "Nothing much, just playing on the swings. What about you?" Ira responded, looking at the wolf. "Nothing much as well. Our lives are too boring right now. Come on, let's go play together!" Gadget exclaimed, grabbing onto Ira's hand. Ira nodded slowly as he got off the swings and was dragged by a playful Gadget toward the hills. Particularly a hill that they both decided was their own private spot to just hang out and chill. Once they both made it to the top, they laid down almost immediately out of tiredness. They panted softly as they looked at the tree underneath them. The shade covering their eyes from the sun that shined on everything that day since there wasn't a cloud in sight. "What do you wanna play?" Ira asked, continuing to stare upwards. "Hm, maybe we could try to climb the tree!" Gadget exclaimed, sitting up. "That sounds epic, let's do it!" Ira responded, getting up immediately. The two kids ran up toward the tree and started climbing on one of the lower branches. They giggled as they climbed up the tree, never once feeling an ounce of fear in them. Ira grabbed Gadget's hand and pulled him once they found a spot on the tree to rest on top of. "So, was it fun?" The wolf asked, laying down. "Yes!" The jackal yelled out. Gadget quickly covered his ears as he chuckled slightly at the reaction.
Ira smirked knowing how cute Gadget was when he did that. "Okay, let's do the fun part again and climb down." Gadget spoke, sitting up once again. The wolf slowly climbed down as Ira waited for him to reach the ground. Yet, the jackal couldn't help but, find himself staring at a purple flower that was hanging from a branch. He blushed softly knowing full-well he could use it. He crawled toward the branch and slowly picked the flower from its spot. "Okay, you can come down now!" Gadget exclaimed suddenly which surprised Ira.
He nodded slowly and grabbed onto the flower tightly as he climbed down. Ira couldn't let Gadget see it so soon since that'll ruin the surprise he had in mind. "Hey! How about I push you for a bit on the swings?" Ira suggested as soon as he touched the ground. "Really? You wouldn't mind doing that?" Gadget asked, blushing softly. "Well, you are my best friend and you don't know how to play on them," Ira replied, walking toward the wolf. "So, of course, I'll do it, dude! Race ya!" Ira exclaimed before running off. "Hey, come back here!" Gadget exclaimed, chasing after him.
The two kids continued to run back to the playground where the parents were. Ira was still in the lead with a slow runner wolf behind him who was complaining about cheating. "Ira! No fair! You didn't give me a good warning!" Gadget exclaimed, still running after the jackal. "Well, I mean, it's a race, right?" Ira responded, already seeing the playground. Gadget smiled knowing he couldn't get mad at his best friend, no matter how difficult it was. They were always gonna be best friends until the end. Though, sometimes Gadget wondered how they would be like in the future.
"Man, you are slow, Gadget." Ira teased as the wolf finally made it to the swings. "Don't talk, Ira! You just didn't give me a heads up!" Gadget yelled back, tears forming in his eyes. He didn't like it when his best friend teased him about certain things. He hated it to the point where he would cry and be emotional about it. "Ah, don't worry! I'll push you on the swings remember!" Ira exclaimed, trying to quickly comfort his friend. He didn't mean to accidentally make his friend cry. "Right! I remember! Let's do it!" Gadget exclaimed, wiping his tears away quickly.
"But, can I tell you something?" Ira asked which surprised Gadget who nodded. "My parents told me that when I grow up, I can marry anyone that I wanted to choose. It didn't matter if it was a girl or a boy." Ira explained, looking away for a minute. "Really? You can do that! Cool!" Gadget exclaimed, smiling. It was nice to see love blossom. "So, I wanted to say this," Ira spoke, suddenly. "When I, well, when we grow up. I want to marry you!" Ira exclaimed, presenting the purple flower to Gadget.
Gadget was in shock after hearing that yet, he couldn't help but, smile and blush. "Really?" The wolf asked, taking the flower. "Yes, really!" The jackal exclaimed. "Well, okay then. When we grow up, we'll marry one another!" Gadget spoke, putting the flower coat pocket. "Now, push me on the swings, Ira! You promised!" Gadget exclaimed, getting on the swings already. Ira smiled and nodded quickly as he started to push Gadget who laughed. The playground was filled with laughter and the sounds of the swings creaking. It was a nice feeling to listen and see.
------
"Did I really say that?" Ira asked, blushing intensely. "Yes, you did. I can't believe that when we were seven-years-old, you told the future." Gadget replied, smiling at the old memory. "Well, I certainly don't mind it, my love. I guess what, seven-year-old Ira wanted, he got." Ira spoke, kissing his husband's cheek. Gadget giggled and kissed his husband in return. The two were happily married after all these years and everything was exactly how their childhood-selves wanted it to be.
A happy ending.
