Hours passed since the incident with Victor, and Axel was still trying to figure out what went wrong. His son left him in charge, and something terrible happened on his watch. Bad shit seemed to follow him, making Axel wonder who else was working with them. Something about this didn't seem right. He knew Victor had a hard upbringing but got help. The man was a lot of things, but Axel was sure he wasn't a rapist. That was the least of his worries; his daughter-in-law was raped, making him fear it could make his granddaughters come earlier than expected, leaving Ax no choice but to call Irene. Only to learn Adele had already made the call. Before he could dial the woman's number, she ran into the room and straight to Adele, wrapping the girl in her arms. After she forced him out to check the necessary things, she assured him everything was fine except for a few bruises besides the cut and stab wound, which needed stitches.

"Have you called Luca yet?" Adele asked as Axel turned to her slowly. He was reviewing his opinions and the best way to tell his son he allowed his wife to be raped. Adele was steadily blaming herself when this was all his fault. Axel should have never left her alone. He should have rescheduled his meeting till the morning, but he was sure everything would be okay.

"No... I've been thinking of the right way to tell him. I let my son down. I'll be lucky if he could forgive me for this."

"I don't think Luca would be mad at you, Axel. You didn't let him in or tell him to rape me—"

"No, but I left you alone, Kleine. I blew him off even when Luca called me, saying something was wrong and claimed he was overreacting. I took my time getting back to the house. If I had left when he called, I could have prevented you from being raped, or at least what happened to Liam. This happened because I didn't want to believe my son and his foolish feelings. It's because of me, not you, that Liam is lying in a fucking— It's not your fault Adele. You and my son have a connection, a bond that can't be broken. He could feel you were in danger, and so could Liam. I ignored both of their cries because I thought they were crazy. I was the one who thought my son was crazy until Liam texted 911. Stop blaming yourself for what happened because I should've been here. I'm sorry, Kleine, but you need to sleep. I'll take one of the other guest rooms." Axel sighed as he tried to get the events from a few hours ago off his mind.

"Wait! Don't leave me, please!" Adele said, grabbing Axel's hand like a scared little girl as tears ran down her face, causing his heart to break again. Slowly, he lowered back down to the bed, taking her into his arms as he rocked and hummed a song his mother used to sing to them when they were scared. About fifteen minutes later, Adele was sleeping, allowing Axel the opportunity to call his son.

'What the fuck I've been calling...'

'He killed Liam, Luca.'

'What?'

'He killed Liam and... and raped Adele.'

'Repeat that, but slower this time.'

'H-he raped Adele. I'm... I'm sorry, son.' Axel shut his eyes, listening to his son rage out before the phone call ended. Luca had allowed his anger to take control, and there was no telling what he would do. He was miles away and wasn't there to protect his wife, and Axel let him down. He knew the feeling but differently. Axel had to let the love of his life go to protect her and his son. He had to lie to Luca upon his mother's wishes, causing a hate-love relationship between them. Luca was a lot like him. He would have done anything to protect his wife, and Axel should have acted the same towards his daughter-in-law. This was his fault. If he had listened to his son, there would have never been a struggle, and Adele would have never been raped. Axel left her alone. He allowed them to have the upper hand. It was all on him, causing Axel to sigh deeply, running his fingers through his daughter-in-law's hair as his phone rang again.
