Why?

Luca should have rethought taking Adele seven hours away from home. He thought celebrating their anniversary would be good without the others putting their two cents into what they did. Adele deserved it, but someone had other plans. Now he was sitting in a waiting room, where he'd been waiting for the last four and a half hours, waiting for someone to tell him what was going on with his wife causing him to want to kill everyone who worked there until the doors finally opened.

"Don, if you would sit with me, I would like to discuss what's happening with your wife."

"Kane, cut the bullshit, just tell me what's going on. And you better not give me a bullshit ass story about how you tried your best to save her." The man nodded but still waved his hand for him to sit. Luca wanted to argue; instead, he took a deep breath and sat beside him as he waited for him to speak.

"Calm down, Luca. Your wife is stable, but there was an issue—"

"If it's about the baby, I knew. I may sound crazy, but I don't care if she's okay. We can make more babies; if not, I'm happy with the ones we have." Kane nodded with a deep breath. Luca may have sounded harsh, but he only cared about his wife. He needed Adele, and so did their babies. "The baby is fine as well. I wasn't sure if you knew she was pregnant. Adele lost a lot of blood, but she's a strong woman. And her friend who was brought in with her, but both are alive. I also made a point to call your Father and they are on the way, but I have to ask. What the fuck happened?"

During the four hours of waiting, Luca didn't think about his parents or Adele's mother or siblings. His mind was focused on his wife hoping she made it out alive. Lucky for him, he had his cousin to do it for him. Still, something bothered Luca; no one was supposed to know they were in Sylt. Luca didn't even reveal the location to their family members; therefore, one of his guards who came along ran their big mouths.

"I've been playing everything over and over again in my head. I don't know what the hell went wrong. Our location was a secret; then Kelly showed up... the woman brought in with Adele. She wasn't a friend; you should know that Kane. You were at the wedding. I had her talking, but whoever she was working for knew. They shot her and my wife... damn Adele is so fucking hardheaded. They shot my Liebe, so they will pay. Some of them died tonight, but once I find out who the rest are, they all will be dead. They think I'm crazy but haven't met my wife."

"Anyone married to you, Luca, has to be crazy. I heard she's on the same level of craziness as your grandmother and Axel. Or is she crazier? I mean, you're pretty crazy yourself... but you can see your wife whenever you like. I have to warn you, though, that she's sedated, and before you say something, it's safe for her and the baby."

Luca trusted Kane and knew he wouldn't do anything to hurt Adele. He was a great doctor, and Luca wished the man would come to work for him as he'd been asking him to do for some time. "She's crazier than them. I wouldn't want to get on her bad side, or you may end up like Saxon. Or her Father and brothers." He spoke, standing. Kane knew not to question him as he led Luca down the hall into a private elevator, which went to their private floor, and for precautions, he placed Kelly there as well. Luca may have disliked the girl, but she didn't deserve to die because of her stupid father, who wanted something he would never have.

Although all of Luca's thoughts left once he saw his wife. She looked lifeless, lying there hooked up to different machines while they pumped blood, fluids, and medicines into her body. It made him want to break down and cry, knowing he could have lost the one thing that meant the world to him besides his children. "Leave."

"Luca, I—"

"I'm your fucking Don Kane, and I'm ordering you to leave now!" Luca was trying not to get upset with the man, but he needed to be alone with his wife. He couldn't afford to break down in front of his men. Plus, it was something he would rather do alone; as he pulled a chair beside Adele's bed and quickly took her hand, kissing her fingertips as he cried. This was his fault; he should have done something closer to home, but the damage was done, and he had to live with it.
