Once he saw what Adele did, the knife in Luca's hand dropped to the floor. What he saw before him had to be a sick joke... who would do something this evil? How could they get that close to harm one of the things he cared about the most? He couldn't explain what he was feeling as he reached into the box, taking out one of its contents... his dog's head. This caused a tear to slip out the corner of his eye; he couldn't believe someone could be this cruel. They were innocent animals.

Yes, he was a killer, but this was wrong on so many levels. These were his babies before his children. He raised them, and they were the only things he truly loved besides his father, aunts, uncles, and cousins before meeting Adele and having his own kids.

"Who would do this? This is wrong on so many fucking levels, Luca. We should have brought them with us... We should have never listened to Axel. Baby... I'm sorry. I know how much you loved them. They were your babies... our babies. Harmless even though they looked like they weren't." She was right, and Luca could see this was getting to Adele bad. She loved Rock and Smoky as much as he did... maybe more. So, he gently placed Smoky's head back into the box and pulled her to him, hugging her tight.

However, Luca couldn't lie; those dogs had brought him out of a dark place. Before them, he was lost. Axel did him a favor by buying the two, causing Luca to put all his time and energy into training them to protect everyone while being his pets. Then Adele came along, and right from the start, Rock became her baby. She had both spoiled, making them soft, so he got Teddy and Blu. Still, she would bring them into the house or sit with them outside for belly rubs. There was no way this was Lina and Hans. There was more to this story, which caused Luca to search the box until he found a letter.

It's funny how one can love an animal as if they were your child. They bring joy but can also bring heart ache... what did it bring you? Did you enjoy your gift, or are you crying over your loss? They were vicious little beasts, somewhat like their owner. They fought hard and even bit me, but in the end, I won. You cannot run or hide from me; I'm always lurking in the shadows. I could be a person you see every day or pass when you're out and about. I could be in and out of your home or the person you least expect. Who am I, Luca? I'll give you three simple words: YOUR WORST NIGHTMARE!

PS,

If I were you, I would stay at home today. You don't want that pretty little wife of yours hurt again. I always knew you would have the same taste of women as your father. Tell Obioma I said hello... keep your family close, or one of their heads will be in a box next. Maybe... just maybe, it will be your beautiful chocolate wife after I taste her. Know it doesn't pay to have a pregnant, defenseless wife.

"What the fuck?!" Immediately, Adele took the note from his hands, reading over it as his mind ran over the hundred possibilities of who this could have been. He didn't try to make enemies; if he did have any, he made sure to kill them off so no one could come after him.

"Luca, call your Father and tell him to get our kids back to the house now! I'll call the rest." She didn't have to tell him anything because he was already on the phone waiting for Axel to answer while she paced the room, telling her grandmother, sisters, and Sib to get home before calling the others. He was pissed that someone had the nerve to come after his family, and at the moment, Luca was ready to kill anyone who looked at him wrong as he picked up the first thing he saw, throwing it across the room. Sadly, it was his laptop, but he was too damn mad to care as Axel screamed his name threw the phone.

'LUCA!'

'Sorry, I need you and Mom to get my children home now. Someone's been watching us and knows where we are— They killed my dogs.'

'What?'

'They fucking cut Rock and Smoky's heads off.'

Axel took a deep breath on the other end of the phone. He knew what those dogs meant to him. He was the one who bought them for his twenty-first birthday... as Luca stated, it was during a dark time in his life, and Axel bought them as a comfort mechanism.
