The light shon in. Bright as ever.
"Oh it burns" Erin yelled quickly covering herself with her doona
Hearing someone chuckle she slightly raised her eyes above the doona to see the sight of jay standing there with no shirt on and jeans. "Here" he said while passing her a bagel, Panadol and a coffee "I think you need this"
"How the hell aren't you feeling like crap after last night? Ahh I'm going to kill Dawson for leaving" Erin whined
"Because I didn't drink as much as you and even if I did your like half the size of me so of course it's going to hit you harder then me" Jay laughed barely able to contain himself as Erin suffered
"Oh no" Erin said while running to the toilet throwing her guts up
"Huh I didn't expect that, well you better get yourself in the shower and freshen up, we have to be at the shooting range in an hour remember, I'm so gunna do better then you today" Jay smirked to himself yet feeling a little sorry for her
"I hate you Jay Halstead" Erin stuck her rude finger up while her head was still leaning on the toilet seat
"As much as I wanna take pity on you I wanna win" Jay said being a smartass
"No more scrabble then" Erin said sharply while she lifted her head and looked him dead in the eye
"Okaaay then let's get you cleaned up come on, and here I will get you some water" Jay took that seriously and helped her out there was no way he was letting that happen
Half hour later, still with a pounding headache Erin and Jay got in Jays car and drove to the shooting range. Jay turned to her as they pulled up "how you feeling??"
"A lot better actually, the coffee and pain relief definitely helped. Thanks" Erin said smiling
"It's fair game now" Jay smirked
Half hour later in the shooting range. **BANG BANG BANG BANG** **BUZZER** Over the speaker "clear and holster your weapon, once your weapon is safe raise your hand. Line is safe remove your eyes and ears and bring your targets up to range" Both Erin and Jay pushing the button to bring up their targets, Jay looking tough and confident. Over the speaker "once you have your targets bring them up for requalification" Erin smirking at her target very confident. "We got to roll, how'd you do?" Jay asked Erin "Uh" Erin smirked confidently showing jay her target "Son of a bitch" jay smiled and starting walking off. "Congratulations you both passed requal" they both thanks the officer and walked out the door.
Back at the 21st. Erin and Jay walked up the stairs side by side while everyone was watching them enter late. At least they had an excuse everyone thought Voight yelled "We've got a case!" While Voight was putting details on the board everyone got prepared to hear it out.
"Neil Patterson, a retired veteran. Shot 10 times"
Jay was zoning out, these cases always hit home. He glanced over at Erin with watery eyes. "You okay?" she mouthed to him. He nodded but she knew it was hurting.
"We have his phone, it was with him as well as his wallet which forensics are looking over. Mouse is doing work up on his phone now. Now I'm changing up partners for the time being. Halstead and Lindsay, Atwater and Burgess, Ruzek and Upton. Al is taking some personal time off but he will be back next week so we will be short a man until then so everyone has to pull their weight. Now Halstead and Lindsay go visit the family, Ruzek and Upton go check out the crime scene. Don't let anything go I missed this is an important one" Voight explained as he walked back into his office closing the door
Erin and Jay looked at each other and Jay raised his eyebrows with a smirk. They both walked down to the car. Erin looking at Jay with her palm open "keys?" Jay with his mouth open replied "but come on I thought we ended that a while back?" Erin laughed "Jay I always drive, you only drive when I allow you to drive so keys please" Jay with a little puppy dog face pleaded his was into being able to drive there was no way he was giving in to that anymore not without a fight anyway.
At the crime scene Ruzek and Upton were rummaging around in the bushes looking for something, anything. "So thoughts?" Ruzek turned to Upton "on?" Hailey confused "You know what" he replied "Oh Jay and Erin? I love it, I'm really happy for them. If it wasn't meant to be they wouldn't have been able to fall back into old times with each other they are obviously meant to be together" "Well someone's enthusiastic" Ruzek smirked "You gotta love love Adam" Hailey smiled "Hold up look" she pulled away a loose couple of branches "gun" "I'll cal Voight" Ruzek said
Meanwhile at the victims house, Jay and Erin waited on the door step for someone to answer. Erin could not keep her eyes off Jay she was happy to be his partner again but she knew this case was taking a toll. "May I help you?" A blonde woman answered the door "Hi I'm detective Halstead and this is my partner detective Lindsay we just have a few questions about Neil Patterson are you his wife? Jay asked "Um yes I am, I'm Shayla what happened is he okay?" The blonde lady questioned as she started to sob "May we come in ma'am?" Erin asked polity As they walked in Shayla pointed out all her husbands awards and medals and the offered them a seat. Erin "Shayla I'm really sorry but your husband was found this morning dead" Shayla started to sob, after about 15 minutes she calmed down ready to answer the questions. Erin "Ma'am did your husband have any enemies? Shayla "Only one, they use to fight all the time umm his name was Luke King, I think he moved away tho" Erin "what did they fight about?" Shayla "who got to be with me" Erin "was he acting any different lately?" Shayla "not really but he was going out more often then not" **BUZZ BUZZ** Jay "Erin we gotta go, Thankyou ma'am I am really sorry about your husband we will do everything possible to bring justice to his name you have my word"
When they got back to the 21st they spoke about what had happen with Shayla and were waiting on forensics for the gun. They pinned the new suspect on the board 'Luke King' Mouse piped up "I got something" Mouse showed us footage of 3 men walking outside a bar arguing, they walked around the corner coming back 5 minutes later and 1 was missing. "Okay who is the other suspect, one of them is Neil, the other is Luke King" Voight getting cut off "Yeh the other one is Nathan Damian I pulled him off face recognition, former veteran. Prior charges for aggravated assault" Mouse said "Okay track down a location for him so we can get some answers!" Voight demanded "Sarge" Upton yelled from her desk "we just got ballistics on the gun, came back with Nathan's fingerprints, he's our guy" "GEAR UP" Voight demanded as we all went down to get suited up
Once again Jay was helping Erin with her vest. "I bet you missed this" Jay smiled while doing up the last straps "What missed my handsome partner making sure I was all good before rolling out? No way don't be silly" Erin joked "Handsome?" Jay raised an eyebrow
They all rolled up to a bar where Nathan's phone had pinged. "Chicago p.d put you hands up!" Everyone shouted all racing towards Nathan. He pulled out a gun and started shooting. Everyone took cover but they didn't expect to hear what happened next.
