Today Erin was 36 weeks pregnant, Jay was going back to work full time and it was Erins last day of work.
"I'm so done it's not funny" Erin was in the break room leaning up on the counter talking to Hailey and Kim.
"Only four weeks left Erin" Hailey smiled.
"So I guess this is what I have to look forward too?" Kim gulped and had a worried look on her face.
"I guess so. It's just different, I never experienced this with Noah and yes I'm so great full but I'm so hating on Jay right now. For the women that say pregnancy is so magical and blah blah. I hate them" they all laughed "And once again I need to pee" Erin shook her head and left.
"So drinks tonight at Molly's?" Kevin asked the boys as they all sat in the bullpen.
"I'm so down" Jay said chucking a mini football in the air.
"Me too" Adam said finishing up his last bit of paperwork.
"So Kev any lucky ladies we should no about?" Jay asked with a raised eyebrow.
"Nope nothing, so I thought maybe we could really go out and you's could be my wingman?"
"Yes! Boys night!" Adam said
"I'm down for a decent night but I really do need to check with the missus first" Jay said
"Dude grow some balls" Adam said spinning around to look at Jay.
"Ruz you will understand when you have a 36 week pregnant wife and a screaming 1 and a half year old" Jay said eyeing Adam as Erin walked into the room.
"Hey Lindsay, Jay has something he wants to ask you. And by the way did I say how much you are glowing lately, I mean really glowing" Adam said to Erin as everyone tried to hold in their laughter and Jay mouthed him to shut up.
"Bite me Ruzek" Erin said as she waddled over to Jay's desk and folded her arms "So?"
"Um well" he paused as he watched Erin stare him down "Oh it was just about a guys night out but you know what it's fine I'd rather stay home with you"
"Halstead honestly it's fine, just go" she said to him before she walked back over to her desk.
Everyone looked at Jay and then over to Erin confused, Jay walked over and knelt beside her "Babe, you okay?"
"Yeah I'm fine, I think it's a good idea. Go have a good night out before the baby comes. You deserve it" she smiled.
"Well how about. Maybe next weekend, I get Hank to look after Noah and I take you away for the night? Somewhere nice and you can have a relaxing weekend?"
"I really like the idea of that" she smiled and grabbed the side of his face "I'm lucky to have you"
He stood up and kissed her forehead and then walked away and got back to his paperwork.
"Okay guys we got a case" Voight said as he walked into the bullpen.
"Erin go home, it's getting late. Go be with Noah we got this, your officially on maternity leave" Voight said as he walked over to Erin.
"Okay, thanks Hank. Just watch his back yeah?"
He grabbed the side of her shoulder "Erin don't worry for once in your life"
"Hank, I'm always going to worry" she shook her head and laughed.
"Yeah I know but he's the one thing you can worry a little less about. He's good at his job and I know it's hard to say this after what happened but we got his back." Hank smiled and gave Erin a hug.
"Yeah I know, to think you'd be so good about him when all those years back you didn't even want him to flirt with me"
"Yeah well times change. Now get out of here" he gave her a stern look motioning towards the exit.
"Okay tough guy"
It was the middle of the night and Jay was still out working, Erin had been up and down with Noah. He wouldn't settle.
"Buddy I really need you to go to sleep for me please?" Erin said with her eyes closed, she was exhausted.
"I want daddy!" Noah hysterically screamed.
"But daddy is working Noah, you will see him in the morning but only if you go to sleep"
"No no no!"
"Okay how about we ring daddy then will you go to sleep?"
He nodded and starting wiping his eyes, Erin could tell how much he was fighting falling asleep.
The one thing she hated about this job is it was so unpredictable, they never knew how long cases would take, what hours they'd be working and when they got to see each other. She didn't want to tell Jay but with another baby on the way she wasn't sure if she could go back after. Being away from Noah was hard enough.
She clicked on Jays contact to FaceTime him, it rang out. Noah started crying and held out his arms for Erin to pick him up.
She sat on the rocking chair and started rocking back and fourth trying to calm him down, she kissed his forehead and rustled her fingers through his hair.
After about half an hour he was finally asleep but she wasn't going to move him, even if that meant she had to sleep in a chair for the rest of the night.
Suddenly her phone rang, luckily it was on silent. She answered and the camera opened up, she looked like crap. Tired eyes and messy hair, Jay stood tall looking all handsome with his hand tucked into his vest.
"Hey" she said quietly.
"Hey you okay? It's early, like what time is it? 4 in the morning, why aren't you asleep?" He said worried.
"I'm fine, this little man though misses you and he didn't want to go to sleep unless you tucked him in. Apparently I'm not good enough, but anyway he's finally asleep and even though I'm really uncomfortable I'm sleeping here until the sun comes up" she said with a small smile.
"I'm sorry" Jay said as he dropped his head.
"Hey it's okay, I know how it is. We just have to make it work and sometimes things like this are going to happen"
"Yeah I know, but it still kills me that I can't be there for you in times like this. I mean you should be asleep and resting right now. Your about to pop out another baby and then your going to get no sleep"
"Oh well" she laughed which made Jay laugh too.
"You that tired your making jokes at 4am?"
"If I don't laugh I'll cry" she sighed "I think I needed this more then him" she said as he eyes dropped down to Noah whom was asleep in her arm.
"I really needed this too."
"How's the case?"
"You know, a bad one. I don't want to bore you with the details." He said before he was interrupted by Voight yelling in the background "Look babe I gotta go, I love you. I will see you guys later"
