Dr Rhodes came out to the waiting room where he found Jay and Hank almost asleep. It had been another 4 hours since Erin had gone in for surgery.
Rhodes "Jay, Voight" he quietly approached them not wanting to startle them
They shot up ready for answers, and hopefully good news.
Rhodes "Erin is going to be fine, we eventually got the bullet out from her abdomen but there was a lot of damage making her lose a lot of bloody. We lost her a couple times on the table but I have full faith she will make a full recover and be back shooting bad guys in no time"
The sigh of relief that came across both of their faces was something you'd never imagine. Pure happiness.
They both grabbed Rhodes on the shoulder bringing him in for a hug, "Thanks Doc"
Jay "Uh when can we see her?"
Rhodes "Technically it isn't visiting hours and technically you aren't family but in my eyes you are so come on I will take you up to her"
They walked up to where Erins bed was. Dr Rhodes nodded to them and walked away.
Voight looked at Jay "Jay give me a minute" Jay nodded waiting outside Erins room
"God you had me worried there kiddo, I lost Justin and I can't lose you too. Just wake up soon so I can continue to make your life a living hell. Oh and also I know I've always said no in house romance but I don't know about you and Halstead, I see how happy he makes you which makes it 10 times easier to let you go out into the streets. I love you Erin don't you forget that, I'm here until the wheels come off" Hank said kissing Erins hand. As he got up off the chair to walk away he heard Erin stir "Hank" Erin whispered barely able to talk
"Hey kiddo" Hank couldn't have been happier hearing her voice as he took a cup of water over to her.
"So you are okay with Jay then?" Erin asked barely able to speak.
"Yeh we will talk about that when your feeling better, I'm going to go get some rest just because someone decided to get shot doesn't mean my work stops. But I'm really happy your okay" Hank smiles walking out of the room
Hank looked at Jay "you gotta have her back 24/7, if your going to make this work with her you gotta have her back"
Jay "I know I don't know what happened, I'm sorry"
Hank "I'm not saying this is your fault sometimes we can't prevent things from happening that's just life but I'm saying from now on if you and her are going to give this whatever this is another crack, you promise be you have her back"
Jay "always"
Hank "still if it messes up or interferes at work it's finished. You understand"
Jay "yes sarge" he nodded and walked into Erins room
Erin could barely open her eyes but she could see jay walking towards her with those big green eyes of his "hey breakdancer" remembering the time she walked into the gym while he wore a muscle tee, she tried to laugh but moaned in agony.
Jay "see that's what you get for picking on me" Jay smiled and he bent over and kissed her forehead
Erin "this whole getting hit with a bullet isn't real fun" she chuckled again in agony
Jay "Bullets you mean, and stop making jokes your only going to hurt yourself"
Erin nodded and held out her hand for Jays. "I love you"
His heart melted he had wanted to say it for so long but knew he didn't want to rush back into things but it definitely felt like the right time "I love you too"
