A creaking sound wakes Katie up from her sleep. She rises from the bed. She looks over to the other side of the full sized bed. Rebel lays there sprawled out asleep, drool on her pillow. Another creak makes Katie turn sharply to the door.

The blonde pushes the heavy quilts off of her body, swinging her legs to the side of the bed. She gets up and covers Rebel back up with the covers. Katie tiptoes to the door, peaking her head out to see if anyone had stepped out of their room. The hallway is empty.

I'm hearing things. Katie rolls her eyes at herself.

As Katie starts to close the bedroom door, another creak makes her pause. Her green eyes flicker up to the crack in the doorway.

Her own curiosity getting he best of her, Katie opens the door and steps out into the dark hallway. She doesn't see the light from the front room's fireplace from down the hallway. The blonde slowly makes her way down the hallway, feeling a sense of deja vu. She bites her lip as he turns back to look at Lane's office door. There's no light from the fireplace shadowing under the door.

Please let this be a dream. Katie hopes. I can't handle another nightmare.

Another creak, much closer. The blonde turns around and begins to back away, her eyes wide. Her chest rises and falls greatly. The strange smell of cigarette smoke fills her nostrils.

Suddenly, her backside lightly bumps against a solid surface. Katie quickly turns, panic filling her. Standing before her, in the dark, is Lane. He stares down at her with annoyance. His brows narrowed and eyes slanted at her.

"Lane..." Katie softly says.

"What are you doing up?" Lane's voice is low, quiet like. "It's late."

"I...heard a noise." The blonde answers truthfully.

The overwhelming smell of cigarette smoke fills Katie's nostrils, letting her know that he went out for a late night smoke. They stand there staring at each other for a few minutes. Feeling the moment become awkward, Katie takes a step back.

"Goodnight, I guess." The blonde begins to turn around.

"Would you join me?" Lane's voice stops her.

Katie turns back to Lane, her green eyes full of suspicion. "Join you for what?"

Lane blinks at her, his eyes slanting lazily. He doesn't answer her for a long time. Only stares hard at her.

"Be with me." To Katie, she can't tell the difference if he is giving her a command or question. His tone is demanding but his eyes are hopeful. "You'll know where to find me."

Lane walks around her to his bedroom door. He gives her one last glance before stepping inside, shutting the door completely. Katie stares at the door in confusion.

Is he asking me to spend the night with him? Or commanding me to? Katie wonders, biting her lower lip. He told me once that we could only share a bed if I made love to him. Am I even ready for that step? Is he asking me if I am? Or is he telling me that he's ready and he doesn't care whether I am or not?

Her thoughts swarm around in her mind, giving her anxiety. What if I don't and he gets angry with me? What if this is my only chance in my entire life? I will probably never leave this gang alive again. But after all that he has done, should I really take that risk? I have to decide now! Do I go in or should I go back to bed with Rebel?

The blonde closes her eyes and takes a deep breath in before letting it out slowly. When her eyes open, her feet begin to move. With her heart racing in her chest, Katie grabs the door knob. Her small hands shake as she turns the handle. The door cracks open. With one last deep breath in and out, Katie steps inside Lane's bedroom. She closes it behind her.

Katie stands facing the door, her heart racing in her chest. She fears she may have made the wrong decision. The blonde slowly turns around to see Lane staring at her from the blazing fireplace. He had frozen mid taking off his brown coat. His face matches the surprise in his eyes.

Lane blinks a few times. "I didn't expect you to take my offer."

The blonde stiffens, regret hitting her chest. "Would you like me to leave?"

"No." He answers immediately, desperation in his voice. He straightens himself up. "No, don't go."

Lane takes off his coat, slowly walking towards the blonde. Her heart pounds harder with every step closer that he takes. He lays his coat it on the arm of his chair. Their eyes never leave each other for a single moment. Only six feet stands between them. Katie bites her lip nervously, putting her hands behind her back. Lane begins to speak but the she beats him to it.

"Do I still have to follow the conditions before sleeping in the bed with you?" Katie asks cautiously, her eyes unreadable to Lane.

Disappointment fills his face. "Yes. Do you still want to go?"

"I should." She answers softly.

"Do you want to?" He asks hopefully.

Katie softly shakes her head. "Not really."

The disappointment leaves the crime lord's ocean blue eyes. "Then, stay."
