• Lane West above •

As the three black Cadillac's drove to the border of Canada and Washington State, Katie thought about Lane's words and warning. She hadn't truly meant that she would betray him, she was just thinking out loud. But she fears that what she had with Lane is now gone. No one had spoke since.

The three identical vehicles pull up to a small warehouse at the end of a town called Canthurburg. Katie looks out he window to see that the town is nearly dead.

Why did we stop here? This isn't Canada's border. Katie wonders suspiciously.

Axel and Sasha get out of the Cadillac. Lane starts to scoot towards the other side of the backseat of the car to climb out.

Katie puts her hand on his, her green eyes filled with plea. "Can I please talk to you for a few minutes? Please?"

Lane looks her up and down, his brows slightly furrowing in confusion. He closes the car door, waiting expectantly.

"I'm sorry, Lane." The blonde says in a baby voice, her lip pouting.

The crime lord stares at her expectantly for a moment. "For?"

"I was just thinking out loud. I didn't mean it." She pouts her lips, her eyes watery. "I want to trust you, Lane. I do! But you're so unpredictable and then I hear you confess that you wanted to kill me and that you were playing me to Sasha-"

Lane quickly grabs the back of her neck, pushing her towards him. His lips crash against hers passionately. Her arms wrap around his broad shoulders gently.

The blue eyed man takes his lips off hers. "You know, you tend to babel when you're nervous."

"I know." Katie says softly, "But I am so sorry, Lane. I really didn't mean what I said. I was just upset because of Sasha."

He nods slowly, his eyes look away. "Okay..."

"You don't believe me." She pouts, sad.

"Sometimes it's hard to believe people after they've confessed they're thinking about betraying you." Lane's words feel like a smack in the face for Katie, her heart sinking. "Even harder when they kiss your ass after they've been caught."

Katie looks down in her lap, small tears escaping her face as her heart begins to ache. His lack of trust in her feels like nothing short of torture. Lane grabs her chin, pulling her head to the side and lifting it up. Her teary green eyes look up into his blue ones with deep sadness. The cold, icy stare he once had before has melted into a pool of water. He wipes his hand over her eyes and cheeks, wiping her tears.

"But you have no need to worry that pretty little head of yours." Lane nods to her.

"And how do I know it's not all a trick?" Katie puts her hand on his chest, her eyes full of plea and unsureness.

"I could have killed you after you told me that you wouldn't inherit Gail's money-giving me no reason to keep you alive anymore-but I didn't." Lane's tone is different than ever before, speaking as if he were talking to one of the others in the gang. Heated words with an icy stare that bites. "I could have killed you for running away-which you did with that little bastard-but I didn't. I could have killed you for disobeying me and dressing like a tramp and embarrassing me, but I didn't. I didn't have to take you out of that hellhole when I realized you were alive. And the worst I've ever given you is a little smack on the ass for mouthing me-disrespecting me! Anyone else would have their teeth knocked out for thinking so bravely."

Lane scoffs loudly, shakes his head as he looks out the window at the gang who waits for them. He nods to them, holding up a hand for patience. He looks back at his lover, his eyes sharply locking with hers. Goosebumps appear on Katie's arms, making her shiver.

"Don't you see a pattern here?" Lane searches her eyes deeply, "If I really wanted to kill you, or harm you in anyway, I would have done so already."

Katie sniffs, trying to find words to respond. She had not realized how inconvenient she had been to Lane. Guilt dig down deep into the morrow of her bones and pinched her insides.

"I didn't realize how awful I've been." Hot tears roll down the blonde's cheeks as she blinks. Her voice breaks. "I'm...I'm so sorry, Lane."

The blue eyed man heavily sighs, his tone lightening up. "You have to trust me, even when its hard to. Everything I do is to keep you safe and your head clear of worry, that's why I don't tell you every part of my plan."

Katie nods, wiping her own tears away. "You do have every reason to kill me."

The crime lord arches a brow, feeling uneasy about her words. "No, that's not what I meant."

"But you should!" The blonde cries out firmly, her face scrunching up with sadness. "I'm a nuisance to keep around."

"You wouldn't have made it without me, Katie." Lane grabs the car door handle, nodding to her. "Now straighten yourself up. I'll give you a few minutes."

Lane steps out of the car, the chilly breeze flowing into the car as the crime lord holds it open for his lover. The blonde sniffs as she wipes her tears away from her pink cheeks. She scoots our of the car and climbs out. Lane slightly smirks at her as he closes the door.

"Be the Katie Fairfield I fell in love with five months ago, not the one you're trying to reinvent." Lane holds out his hand, confusing the blonde for a moment. "Don't bite the hand that feeds you, Sweetheart. Just take it."

Katie softly nods, taking his larger hand in her small ones. He nods and pulls her along with him. The blonde begins to shiver against the cold.

Lane notices this, putting her hand in his pocket. "I've got to find you a coat. You're always clinging to me."

The blue eyed man opens his coat and pulls the blonde inside, the warmth flowing over her. She cuddles his side as they walk to the warehouse. The gang members give them arched brows and questionable looks. Lane glares at them.

"The fuck you looking at?" He growls at them is while holding the blonde close to him for warmth. "Go on! Move!"

Max, Jett, and Axel take the lead, moving on up ahead of the gang. Lola, Frankie, Rebel, and Phoenix take the sides and back of the couple. Cassie trails after them like a lost puppy. Katie buries her head into Lane's warmth, shivering against the icy wind that nips her nose. The crime lord nods to the gang members up ahead.

Max nods back and knocks in the door before raising her gun up in front of her. Jett glares at her, hating how she took over his part of the job. The door swings open, revealing a small man with glasses. When he sees the he guns raised him, he yelps as he jumps backwards. Immediately raising his hands up.

"Who-Who are you? What is this?" The man says nervously.

Lane nods to the man, holding Katie against him. "You William Cane?"

"Y-Yes?" The small man trembles with fear.

The crime lord stops, smirking. "We spoke on the phone. I believe I have an appointment for some ID's."
