• Katie Fairfield & Lane West above •
When Katie steps inside Lane's office, she looks around in awe. Like most rooms in the house, there is a glass wall on the opposite side of the entrance behind a large wooden desk. Only, unlike the rest of the house, the glass in the wall is stained. Tainted.
Is it tainted so no one can see what goes on in his office from outside? If I put my ear to the windows outside, would I be able to hear what goes on inside? The blonde pictures an enemy of Lane's breaking through the glass to get to them. She looks at his desk. How many wooden desk does this man have? How many safe houses?
Katie suddenly makes eye contact with Axel, immediately flashing him an awkward smile. His body is hunched forward, his hands rubbing together. The tattooed man nods to her before looking back down to the floor. The office door closes.
The blonde turns around to see Lane standing in front of the exit, his eyes locked on her.
He's mad. Katie thinks, biting her lip nervously.
"Sit down." Lane walks past her, his shoulder bumping hers. "That wasn't a request."
What did I do? Whatever. Katie sighs heavily as she looks around the office. He did he rob an antiques shop before robbing a furniture store?
"Sit!" Lane exclaims in annoyance, his face full of aggravation. "Katie-"
"I'm going! God!" Katie shouts over Lane as she walks over to the couch.
Katie sits back on the couch, crossing both her legs and her arms. She sits there pouting. Lane stares hard at the blonde for a long time, his chest rising and falling lightly. Eventually, he takes a deep breath in and wipes his face.
"Fix your hair, Katie." Lane tells her, looking down at his desk. "And don't argue with me."
Katie doesn't look to her lover, tears threatening to rise to the surface. She pulls the ponytail out of her hair and quickly fixes her hair back into a tight pony. Lane looks back at Axel, who patiently waits for his boss to acknowledge him.
"Now, with no other further interruptions, let's get back to our discussion." Lane nods to Axel, who raises his head to look at his boss. "You know the basics of what being in charge of one of the branches of my house. Lebedev is in charge of the money laundering as he has always been...but that begs the question, now that Barclay and McGinness are out of the picture, who will be in charge of the hooks and the labs? Both separate branches, of course."
As Lane talks, Katie listens intensely. Deep in thought.
Lane murdered Barclay and McGinness...what happened to the nuns and the girls at the Home For Troubled Girls? Did he kill them too? Those girls were innocent as far as my kidnapping... Katie shivers, wrapping her arms tighter around her body. What all has Lane done?
"I'll do whatever you tell me to, boss." Axel nods to him, "It's an honor to even consider me for the job."
Lane smirks softly, swaying in his swivel chair. "That's why I trust you and not Plane. He's a meathead who I chose to be my second in command-which was a big mistake."
Katie's green eyes flicker up to Lane, curiously watching him as she listens to the men's conversation. One question keeps running through her mind: Did you kill all those innocent girls at the Home For Troubled Girls?
