The smell of coffee and fried eggs fills the bottom floor of the mansion, traveling up the stairwell. Lane growls as the two fully grown German Shepard dogs that trail behind and in front of him. Katie chuckles at how excited the two dogs are as they whine and beg for their masters attention. Charlie, the male German Shepard, nips at Lane's ankle.

The crime lord stops and turns around, his eyes filled with fire. Katie's small smile fades into terror. Lane snaps his fingers toward the blonde, his eyes locked on the male dog.

"Katie, get to the dining room." Lane says darkly, heat in his eyes. "I'll be there in a minute."

Katie stands in her place at the stairs for a while, fearing for Charlie's life. But she does as she is commanded and goes down the rest of the stairwell, heading to the dining room without saying a word.

When Katie steps into the dining room, her eyes immediately lock with familiar brown ones. Elijah. A flutter like sensation fills her chest, causing her to blush pink. Elijah sits at the end of the dining room table with an expectant look on his scruffy but handsome face.

"What are you looking?" Elijah smirks nastily at her, looking the blonde up and down. "Did Boss make you scream so much last night that your hoarse?"

The pink tint in Katie's cheeks go crimson. Annoyance fills her as she glares at him in annoyance. Elijah shrugs his shoulders, blinking rapidly.

"Can I help you?" Elijah says in annoyance.

What a jerk! And just to think, yesterday I couldn't stop thinking about him! Katie rolls her eyes at him before walking to her seat. I'm goin to tell Lane how rude Elijah was-

The sound of dogs whining echoes from the other room. Katie freezes in her place midway to the other side of the dining room table. She turns to the dining room door, her green eyes filled with worry.

The gang exchanges confused looks. Several look to Katie for an explanation. But the blonde ignores their expectant looks for an answer to their silent questions.

Lane wouldn't kill an animal, would he? Katie stares hard at the door, processing her thoughts. Charlie did nip Lane, but it was only to get his attention! Lane won't hurt the doggy, will he? Or what if the dogs hurt Lane!

Another high pitched whine echoes from the front room, followed with a loud groan. Fearing for her lover's safety, Katie rushes to the door of the dining room. Several of the gang members quickly follow after the blonde as she flies out of the room.

Katie runs towards the whines to the entryway of the house. Her heart races as fear fills her. She stops when she sees Lane standing at the front door of the house, tugging at the dogs collars to get them outside. From what she can see, the snow had melted down outside.

"Come on, you damn dogs!" Lane groans loudly, anger in his voice. "It's where animals belong!"

Max makes her way through the small crowd, trying to withhold her laughter. She shakes her head at her boss.

"Boss, you need some help?" Max offers, "I can give you some tips on-"

"No." Lane cuts her off, glaring at everyone watching him struggle. "We're getting rid of these dogs. They're obviously broken!"

"Or they're just not trained." The girl with the pixie cut shrugs, seeing the annoyance in her boss's eyes. "Nevermind."

Katie shakes her head, eyeing the shivering dogs. "It's cold outside."

The crime lord gives his lover a cocky look. "What? No! It's a fucking sauna out here!"

Katie looks to the floor, trying to hide her hurt feelings. Lane sees how his actions have afflicted his lover. Guilt eats at him.

"Max, you're in charge of the dogs." Lane lets go of the dogs collars and walks to where Katie and Max stands. "I've got something to discuss with you and a few of the boys after breakfast."

"Alright, Boss." Max nods to him, walking over to the dogs.

Lane turns to the gathered gang members. He narrows his brows and glares at them angrily. Everyone shifts on the balls of their shoes.

"The fuck you looking at? Scram!" Lane barks loudly.

Everyone quickly rushes back to the dining room. Katie continues to stare down at the floor with a pouty lower lip. Lane looks down at her, heavily sighing.

"If I hadn't just messed with a couple of flea bitten, tick infested mutts, I'd hold you." Lane's heated tone softens, his eyes like pools of water. "I'm sorry that I snapped at you. I didn't mean it."

Katie softly offers him a smile, glancing up at him slowly. Her eyes doesn't focus on him for very long. They look at his study doors 12 feet behind him.

"The snow has melted down." Lane looks outside the glass door, noticing that Max had effortlessly managed to coax the dogs outside in the cold. This makes him smirk. "We're going to try and go into town, okay? I need to have a small chat with Sebastián Martín."

"Okay..." Katie slowly turns, making her way over to the dining room door.

"Katie!" Lane calls out to her, his eyes filled with concern.

The blonde stops, putting her hand on the door. She turns to see the worrisome expression in his face. This fills her with a warm feeling, causing her to slightly smile.

"Yes, My Love?" Katie can't stop the wide grin that dances across her face.

Lane smirks warmly at her nickname for him, his blue eyes twinkling like stars in the night sky. "Nothing. Go on and eat. I'll be there shortly."

The crime lord turns and ducks into the hallway that lead into the kitchen. Katie didn't know what Lane was going to say but she had expected him to say something other than nothing.

Katie walks into the dining room. I wonder what was on the tip of his tongue before he came up with "nothing".

Hey readers! Elijah totally pissed Katie off 😆 What do you think Lane wants to talk about with Max and the boys? What do you think Lane was going to tell her before he came up with "nothing"? Like I explained in my last chapter update, I'm going to try my hardest to update chapters more frequently like I used to but I started college and it's a bit much. This weekend I'm going to try and catchup for my readers! As always, stay safe my lovelies ❤️🙏🏼😷
