• Katie Fairfield & Lane West's outfits above •
When the gang arrived back at the cabin hideout, Katie had searched for the big bag of M&M's she had specially picked out for Lane. She had went to his office and peaked her head in, immediately regretting the decision not to knock first. Lane's thunder like roar sent chills down her spine and the blonde out the door. He was on the phone talking what Katie immediately assumed was business. She put the bag of M&M's in her room for safe keeping, hoping that it would cheer Lane up later.
Katie slowly eats her chicken nuggets as she thinks. What could have caused Lane such anger? His face was beat red!
Everyone is gathered around the table eating. Margo brags about the clothes she bought to Lola, who is annoyed and uninterested in such girl talk.
Footsteps echo from the hallway. Katie briefly looks over her shoulder, hoping that Lane had calmed down. The shape of the crime lord's sturdy build appears through the doorway. The sneer like scowl on his face dims Katie's hopeful smile. The entire table goes silent as Lane roughly grabs the back of the wooden chair at the end of the table. He stomps it down on the glossy wooden floor, making several of the others flinch. Katie looks down at her chicken nuggets, digging them in her ranch sauce.
Lane plops down in the chair, a small growl escaping his throat. He snatched a burger wrapped in silver paper, taking the last big fry in the bag. He shoves three fries into his mouth, unwrapping the silver to reveal the juicy burger. Katie notices that his hands are trembling with anger.
"Hurry up!" Lane's tone is sharp, heated. "We have a job to do."
Everyone around Katie and Lane exchanges a knowing look but says nothing as they continue to eat. The blonde wonders how she could bring him any comfort but fears he would only lose his temper. Katie remains silent as she finishes her chicken nuggets and fries.

Lane's leg bounces, his haunting blue eyes that resemble the ocean waves stares out the window to the dark streets of the night. Katie sits in silence, occasionally looking to his bouncing leg.
Is he scared? Nervous? Katie wonders, arching a brow. Does he have ADHD? Is there a swirling ball of fiery rage burning within him?
"Can I ask you-" The blonde slowly looks up at the crime lord's face.
"No." Lane cuts her off, not looking away from the window. "Be quiet."
Katie's cheeks turn bright pink at his icy command. She hangs her head and crosses her ankles. She twirls her thumbs and chews the faded biting scars inside of her cheek.
"I want you to stay close behind me and do as I fucking say when I say it." Lane says slowly, his chest rising and falling heavily. "It's not going to be pretty."
Katie looks to him, her green eyes wide. Her lips begin to move but she immediately silences herself. Her curled ponytail bounces as she moves her head.
Where are we going? Who are we meeting? Katie wonders silently, Is Lane going to kill someone?
"When I first built the foundation of my house, I took every precaution in keeping it sturdy." Lane's voice is low, steady. "But now I realize a rat has managed to gnaw it's way through a crack in one of my walls...and it has to be exterminated immediately before my house becomes infested."
Katie looks to Lane with an arched brow. Though he is speaking in code, the blonde somehow understands the true meaning behind his words.
Someone has wronged Lane in some way. The blonde doesn't understand his intention behind his confession to her, even if it was in code. Is he trying to warn me? Are we in danger? Are ears listening to our conversations?
A thought appears in Katie's mind. Chills run up and down her body. The blonde's green eyes flicker Axel, whose eyes are focused on the road. Her heart races in her chest.
Has someone in Lane's business world cheated him? Katie bites her lower lip, her eyes growing wide. Is the rat within our small circle? Is it Jett? Frankie? Lola?
"Don't worry," Lane slightly smirks, looking down into his lap. "not a single hair on your pretty blonde head is going to be harmed."
"What should I be worried about?" Katie asks softly.
The crime lord purses his lips, breathing in deeply with his nose. He doesn't answer her, only stares out the window once again. The blonde stares at him with wide eyes, her lips small. She continues to twirl her thumbs while biting the scars inside of her cheek.
