After mopping and scrubbing each floor of the building, Katie was approached by Cassie. Sister Beth took a small group of girls to go walking so they could influence the rough neighborhood. Katie and Cassie stayed behind the group, not wanting to be near them.
"We could just take off right now." Katie whispers to Cassie, "Turn around and just take off."
Cassie gives her an amused smile. "And w-where would we p-possibly g-go?"
Katie slowly nods as the two girls turn the corner. "I have a place in mind. I think I'd know the way."
The redhead shakes her head, smiling. "Your boyfriend?"
The blonde nods. "I think he'd take me back if I told him about Mr. Barclay and his crooked schemes."
"I think y-your craz-crazy." Cassie crosses her arms, slouching as she walks.
"Maybe I am." Katie admits as they walk, smiling at the sunshine in her face and hair.
Suddenly, Katie gets this feeling of eyes watching her. She looks up ahead but doesn't see anyone watching them behind Sister Beth.
"Cassie, do you feel like anyone is watching us?" Katie asks as they walk, straightening up.
The redhead turns, looking around. She shakes her head. She sees the black Cadillac they had walked by pulling out of its parked spot on the side of the street. But that is the only movement she sees.
"No, I d-don't see anyone." Cassie smirks, shrugging. "I guess you're p-paranoid."
Katie softly smiles at her. "I guess I am."
As the girls walk, Katie feels that eyes continuously watch her. She stands up straighter as she walks, feeling uncomfortable. The girls walk in silence for a long time.
"Wh-What does it feel like to be k-kissed?" Cassie asks the blonde curiously.
Katie thinks about Lane and how she used to feel after he would kiss her. She bites her lower lip as she softly chuckles.
"Butterflies in your stomach." Katie tells Cassie, "He always tasted like cigarettes...so it wasn't the best taste in the world...but I always felt safe and secure when we kissed because he'd hold me tight against him."
Cassie gives Katie a girlish grin. "Sounds dreamy."
"He was..." Katie softly nods, her golden blonde curls bouncing.
"I-I-I have always wha-wanted to kiss a boy." The redhead blushes, "A-And a boyfriend."
Katie sighs heavily, lowering her head. The feeling of eyes staring at her intensifies. She arches her brow, looking ahead of her at the grouping girls and Sister Beth.
"Yeah, but after a while, you tend to feel like they're always watching you." Katie remembers that she used to feel the way she does at the moment when Lane would look at her in silence, his eyes unreadable. His actions unpredictable. "It gets a little unnerving."
Cassie chuckles. "If you s-say so."
For the next three blocks, the feeling of someone watching Katie never once left her. But after a while, she told herself she was being paranoid and shrugged it off. As the girls drew near their place of imprisonment, Cassie suddenly trips. Katie laughs at her new friends clumsiness, turning around to help her up.
