After Lane sped away, Anastasia had collected Katie from the curbside to prevent anyone in the neighborhood to raise suspicion. She had showed her to her new room, trying to be as kind as she could be. Unfortunately, Anastasia's kindness couldn't stop the tears that seemed to never stop flowing down the blonde's face. Katie laid down on the bed and bawled. Anastasia left her to cry it out, knowing that her brother had emotionally hurt the young woman a great deal.
Five hours later, Anastasia decided to check on Katie. She hoped she had fell asleep or, at least, stopped crying. But when she opened the door to the guest bedroom, Anastasia could see Katie sitting on the window sill crying in the sane clothes she had on. Her sneakers are still on her feet, her suitcase still packed by her feet.
The brunette feels awkward as she thinks of something calming to say. "Katie..."
The blonde, alarmed turns her head to look at where the voice has come from. She relaxes when she sees Anastasia standing awkwardly in the doorway. Katie sniffs, tears gently falling down her red face. Her chest rises and falls heavily.
"H-He pr-promised me he'd ne-nev-never ab-abandon me." Katie holds her hand over mouth as her voice breaks, her hands shaking.
"Getting upset isn't good for your baby. You need to calm down." Anastasia gently shushes her, walking over to the window sill.
As Anastasia approaches, she spots the ring on Katie's finger. The thirty year old brunette recognizes her grandmother's wedding ring. Anger quickly fills her. She reaches over to snatch it off Katie's hand but the blonde pulls away from her.
"That's my grandmother's ring! Where did you get this?" Anastasia exclaims, "I thought we lost it in the fire."
"Lane gave it to me...it was supposed to be a symbol of our love." Katie takes the ring off, handing it to Anastasia. "But you can have it now. I don't have any use for it."
The brunette snatched it out of the blonde's hand, looking down at the silver ring with diamonds on the inside. She tries to slip it on her index finger but hers are too big to fit the small ring. She frowns, trying her right hand. Unfortunately, her fingers are too wide to fit the ring.
"I don't have anyone now." Katie shakes her head, thinking out loud. "Lane was all I had left in this world..."
"Well...that can't be true." Anastasia pockets the ring in her cardigan pocket, "What about your family?"
The blonde shakes her head, more tears flowing down her blotchy red face. "I don't have any family. They're all dead."
Suspicion fills Anastasia. She thinks of her words carefully before she speaks. Fearing the answer.
"Ho-How did they die?" Anastasia catches herself, feeling rude. "If you feel comfortable telling me! You don't have to if you don't feel-"
"My parents died in a car accident." Katie sniffs, wiping her eyes with her moist hands. "My grandparents died shortly after cause they were too old...and Lane shot my uncle, Gail."
"Oh, my God!" Anastasia exclaims in horror, her ocean blue eyes wide.
"He sold me to him so he could get out of his debt." Katie lowers her head, tears continuing to fall down her face.
