~ WARNING: trigger scene below!!! ~The town of Pinewood is busy with police sirens. Four towns over, in the bigger town of Cheshire, Washington, two black Cadillac's drive through the thick woods to a hidden house.
The girls are all gathered around the dining room table, playing rummy. Katie has the lowest score, her mind on Lane. She hadn't seen him since he dropped her off the night before. She worried about his long absence and if she would ever see him again.
"Don't worry about Boss." Max tells Katie from across the table, her hazel eyes full of knowing. "He wouldn't just leave you for death."
Katie slowly nods. "He's been gone all day...what if he's hurt, or arrested?"
Lola rolls her eyes at the blonde, sipping on her Coka-Cola. Cassie smiles as she picks up a card and smiles wide, setting down three queens. Diamond, heart, and club. The girls all give the redhead a shocked look.
"Ya know," Max nods her head at the redhead, "for someone who just learned this game, you sure are good at it."
Lola cringes when she sees Cassie's lips moving, her speech problem annoying the turquoise haired girl. Rebel gives Katie a smile, hoping to sooth her nerves.
Cassie shrugs, blushing. "I-I learn f-f-f-fast."
Katie smirks at her friend, happy to see both of them out of the prison that was Sisters of St. Abernathy's Home For Troubled Girls. The blonde then picks up a card from the pile and sets down two three, four, and five of diamonds, three sevens, and the spade queen that plays on Cassie's set of queens. She discards her last card smoothly, smiling up at everyone at the table. The girls all stare at Katie shocked. Cassie burst into giggles, loving how awesome her friend seems.
"How—" Max rubs her eyes in disbelief, "No freaking way!"
"You has to of cheated somehow!" Lola shouts, standing up and walking over to where Katie sits.
Rebel and Cassie exchange loud, cheerful laughter as Katie grins. Lola looks up at Max, her eyes full of shock.
"She went out..." Lola says to Max, "The Kid actually went out just like that."
Max grabs the piece of paper, counting the numbers of everyone's cards. "I wouldn't play like that with Lane. He's a sore loser."
Katie smirks. "And probably an even more sour winner."
Max nods to her, chuckling. Cassie looks to the stairwell, frowning. Margo has been upstairs ever since the gang had arrived. The redhead wondered if she was okay.
"I-Is shh-she okay?" Cassie points towards the stairwell.
"Yeah..." Max slowly nods, lightly frowning. "She's kind of upset."
Katie looks down in her lap, feeling the fabric of her pajamas. And I know why.
Cassie arches a brow. "Why?"
"Because I'm not dead." Katie answers, not looking at anyone, "And she can't be with Lane."
"It's more than that, Kid." Lola tells her firmly, her eyes sharp. "Yeah, she hates your perfect little guts, but something happened while you were gone."
