• Lane West & Katie Fairfield (above) •
The Black Cadillac smoothly pulls up to a gas pump. Axel nods to Max, unbuckling his seatbelt. He quickly steps out, waiting for his boss to go in and pay for their gas. Max quickly gets out and rushes inside the building to use the restroom.
Lane leans his head over to get a view out of his car side window. The crime lord reads the sign at the top of the gas station building, squinting his eyes at the fluorescent brightness of the bold lettering. The neon yellow sign reads Starlight Station. But Shooting Star, the mascot of the Starlight Station company, shines even brighter just to right above the large lettering. The cartoonish face on the mascot makes Lane snarl in disgust.
Lane looks down at Katie, who sleeps soundly in his arms. He heavily sighs and shakes her with his arm and hand. The blonde jerks awake at the sudden movement around her, her eyes wide. When she sees Lane looking down at her, her tired face twists into annoyance. She starts to lay her head back down when the crime lord loudly clears his throat.
"Get up." He commands firmly, "We're getting gas."
"Okay? And?" She mumbles grumpily, her lips pouting.
"And thirty minutes ago, you said you were starving." Lane fires back, annoyance deeply interlaced in his voice. "You're stomach growled while you slept. Get up and get in there and find you something to eat."
The crime lord gently slides her off his lap, making her loudly gasp in shock. She whines as she straightens herself up, yawing wide. Lane slowly climbs out of the vehicle, the icy chill of the weather outside blows inside the backseat of the Cadillac.
Katie shivers. "Burr!"
Lane impatiently motions for her to get out of the car. The blonde nods and opens the car door on her side of the backseat. Even though she wears black skinny jeans and a button up shirt with her cozy favorite sweater over the top, Katie violently shivers from the cold.
The heels on her brown booties click against the pavement as she rushes around the vehicle to where Lane stands in waiting. He reaches out his hand, his leather gloves on. Katie takes his hand and walks with him to the gas station building. The smell of gas and delicious pizza fills her nostrils, making her both gag and lick her chops. Katie cuddles into Lane's side for warmth as they approach the door of the gas station building.
Lane opens the door, the warmth from the buildings heating system fans over his chilled face. Katie quickly walks through the threshold of the doorway, immediately warming up from the chill outside. The crime lord nods to the cash register.
"I'm going to pay for the gas." Lane looks down at Katie, fanning the chill off of his coat. "Go find something to eat. It's going to be a long car ride."
"Okay..." The blonde nods, her naturally curled ponytail bouncing as her head moves up and down.
Katie slowly walks out onto the isle, unsure of what her tastebuds want. She looks over her shoulder at Lane, seeing his eyes locked on her as she hesitatingly puts a distance between them. His ocean blue eyes are filled with annoyance, his hand motioning for her to go on. She turns her head and continues on.
Suddenly, Max appears. A look of relief on her thin face. Her hazel eyes are tired. She looks to Lane and then back to Katie with an arched brow?"
"What's wrong? Trouble in paradise?" Max asks in suspicion, a smirk on her face.
"I don't know what I want." The blonde slowly wanders into an isle, Max on her heels.
