• Katie Fairfield (above) & Lane West (below) •
On the car ride home, Katie had thought of the things that brought on torture like pain to her heart.
I won't be able to sit in the backseat with Lane in his own personal car anymore. I won't be able to sit in his lap when he does business. I won't be able to run to him when someone tries to grab me. I won't be able to hold onto him when I'm cold, or scared. The blonde had repeatedly thought as she broke down in Rebel's arms. I won't even be able to keep Sugar and Charlie anymore. That'll be the first thing Lane does. Oh Lane! He didn't even come after me! He got in the car with Gabriella without asking if I was okay. Lane obviously made up his mind. I was just a bedwarmer to him after all.
The white and two black Cadillac's pull up to West Manor. Katie's heart burns in her chest. Rebel pats her friends bicep. Charlie comes running to the cars, barking.
"We're home." The mixed girl says softly, looking down at the mascara stains on her clothes.
Katie lifts her head, sniffling. "I wanna die. Just die!"
"No, you don't." Rebel reasons with her calmly, "Boss can't just automatically forget about you. He's put too much into what you have to just throw you away."
"He already threw me away, Rebel." Katie's voice wavers, shaking her head. "He didn't even come after me or ask if I was okay. I'm sure he didn't even notice I was gone!"
Rebel looks to everyone in the car, letting out a heavy sigh. "I can't argue with that."
"Y-You can bunk with m-me." Cassie offers kindly, "I d-don't mind."
Katie hugs her friend tightly, tears continuing to flow down her reddened cheeks. "Thank you."
Rebel gets out, along with Allison. Cassie opens the door to the other side, climbing out. Katie closes her eyes for a few minutes, taking deep breaths in and out before sliding to the car doors. The blonde steps out, her small heels crunching the leaves beneath her feet. She follows the girls to the house, trying not to look in Lane's direction. She makes her way up the stairs of the porch with her head lowered.
Max takes the keys out of her jacket pocket, searching in the dark for the key. "Just a second, gotta find the damn key."
Katie closes her eyes, feeling her tear stained cheeks burn in the cold air. Someone steps up to the porch beside the blonde. She looks away, trying to force her emotions away in order to stop crying. The blonde suddenly takes in a deep breath, realizing she had been holding her breath.
Suddenly, a hand reaches over and grabs Katie's face, her jaw resting between the index finger and a thumb. The blonde's heart races at the unanticipated touch. Her face is slowly turned to the other side, where the blonde had been trying to hide from. Katie's teary, reddened green eyes looks up into familiar blue ones. Lane. His stoney expression melts, the ice in his eyes melting to water. His thumb rubs her left cheek, seeing the hurt in her eyes.
