• What Lane West & Katie Fairfield are wearing •
Three black Cadillac's move across the darker parts of Cheshire, Washington. The sky is dark, gloomy. Thunder rumbles in the distance. Katie stares out the window at the sky, sighing heavily at the soft rain droplets hitting the roof of the car. Lane sits on the right side of the car watching her with a soft expression, his arm resting on the back part of the conjoined backseat cushions.
"I know it's early Spring, but I'm tired of all this stupid rain." Katie pouts, "It's cold and wet and I'm ready for swim season."
The blonde looks over at her lover, who chuckles at her with amusement. He opens his coat to her, offering her warmth in the space between his body and his coat. Katie scoots over and slides under his wing. He kisses her forehead tenderly.
"I told you to bring a coat." Lane whispers to her, smirking. "You never listen to me."
The blonde decides to playfully tease him, grinning. "If I did, I wouldn't have an excuse to get this close to you."
Lane crosses his left leg over his right, his arm and body cocooning the blonde. Katie closes her eyes as she partially lays on her lover and smiles with relief.
It's hard to fathom that only three days ago, I thought I would never see Lane again. The blonde cuddles his chest happily, her hand in the center his chest. I thought by now, I would either be dead or still in that stupid Home For Troubled Girls.
"What're you thinking about, Kitten?" Lane asks softly, being tender as he holds her close to his warm body.
Katie slowly looks up into Lane's blue eyes, her lips pouty. She lightly shakes her head. The terror and pain she felt once before echos back to her from her memories, haunting her.
"I keep wondering if I'm hallucinating..." The blonde's voice is distant and soft, her eyes lowering to the tip of a tattoo on his chest that sticks out at the neck of his sweater. "If I'm hopped up on drugs and my mind is trying to trying to find a safe place to hide from the monsters and mayhem that I can't seem to get away from-"
Lane lifts her chin, his thumb tracing and rubbing her jawline. His blue eyes search hers deeply. She nods to him as small tears form in the corners of her eyes.
"You're my only safe place." The blonde whispers to her lover, "When I see you, I know everything will be okay because you're right there...or here. And nothing is allowed to get to me."
The blue eyed man softly smirks, kissing the side of her head. "I'm here. You're safe. And you're right, nothing can get to you as long as I'm near."
The blonde begins to tear up, the horror she had lived through replaying in her mind. Lane pulls her tightly against his chest, his chin resting on her shoulder. His fingertips rub her back soothingly to bring her comfort.
"I can't get it out of my head!" Katie softly cries, her chest violently rising up and down. "I can't fight them, no matter how hard I try! I escape one and when I think I managed to be set free, the monster brings seven more back with him...and they're all worse than him."
Lane squeezes her tighter against him, closing his eyes. "I used to have those demons too."
"How do you get rid of them?" The blonde sniffs, sitting up as she wipes her teary eyes.
