• Lane West laughing at Katie (you'll figure out what part!!!!) •
By 3 a.m., everyone was packed and ready to make a run for it. Rebel made Katie walk on her own to the car, trying to loosen her sore muscles. Lane was in his office when she had went to the car, or so Rebel had told her. She sits on her side in the backseat of the Black Cadillac. She bites her nails nervously.
The right door of the backseat opens, the dinging of the open door rings in the air. At the sight of him, Katie's heart flutters like butterfly wings. She offers him a huge smile, wanting to slide right into his lap when he gets in. Lane slides into the car, but he moves over to the middle of the car. The blonde arches her brow at this as she smiles wide, loving the closeness. She starts to reach for him when someone else catches her eye. Sasha. The woman with snow white braids slides in the spot where Lane usually sits.
Confused and a bit agitated, Katie looks to Lane. He doesn't acknowledge her presence, much less look to her or speak to her. Axel climbs into the drivers seat, automatically starting the car before he even closes the door. The lights go off. Katie feels as the black Cadillac begins to pull away from the house. She looks in the back window to the house. The lights are all on but no one is home. She recognizes a car remaining in the drive. It's the car the new comers had arrived in.
Or Lane wants them to think someone's home. Katie slowly nods, turning back around.
The car remains silent for a long time. Katie heavily sighs and lays her head on the window sill, staring up at the full moon. Eventually, the feeling of the vehicle's movement puts the blonde to sleep.

The sound of voices talking wake Katie up. She keeps her eyes closed as she listens in on the conversation.
"When Tobias told me that you were desperately looking for a crew and needed his help, I knew what was in store for you." Sasha says from the other side of Lane, "The head of the house is always the number one target."
"Don't think because I spared you that you're getting special attention." Lane growls, "I still don't trust you."
"But you trust her."
There's a long silence. Katie feels Lane's icy blue eyes staring at her. She fights through her chills to shiver or move a muscle.
"I know I can trust her." Lane finally says, "It's one of the things I don't have to worry about her."
Katie smiles softly at his words. Oh, Lane!
"What's the deal with her anyhow, huh? Is she like a pet or something?" The blonde frowns at Sasha's words, taking offense. "You could just get a lap dog and that would be better."
"Yeah, but I'd rather not commit bestiality." Lane's words slap Katie hard in the face. She narrows her brows as she continues to listen. "Originally, I was going to take the money she would inherit from her uncle, who stole from me, and then I was going to fillet her for even holding the title Fairfield..."
Katie bites her tongue from making a sound, shocked and horrified at Lane's words. Lane was going to kill me? He used me? Is he still using me?
"After a while, I decided to amuse myself by letting her think I actually gave a damn about her." Lane's words cut Katie deeply, salt to sound as if he were laughing at her pain. "She's too naïve and weak to even see what's in front of her. I've convinced her to let me have control...now I've got her eating out of the palm of my hand. It's only a matter of time before...well, you know."
