"I was safe the entire time, wasn't I?" Katie slowly asks, "I'm not trying to be cocky or anything, I'm just asking."
Lane rolls his eyes as if it should already be obvious, looking back out onto the damp woods in annoyance. "What do you...

A creaking sound wakes Katie up from her sleep. She rises up from bed, her brow arched. Her lips purse as she mentally decides her dilemma to either go back to sleep or investigate. She hurries out of the covers and to the door, tiptoeing quietly. She peaks her head out to see that the hallway is empty, dark besides the glowing light from the fireplace in the living room.
Curious, Katie closes the bedroom door and tiptoes to the front room. She peaks her head out to see no one in sight.
Hmmm, was it a mouse? Katie wonders, Did I dream it?
Another creak and a heavy thump echos from behind her. The blonde turns to see that the lights are on in Lane's office.
"What's Lane doing up at this hour?" Katie wonders out loud.
The green eyed blonde slowly walks to the door, remembering to knock. She softly knocks on the door. There is no answer. Frowning, Katie knocks once again but still no answer.
Odd. The blonde frowns. He would have at least told me to go away by now.
Katie grabs the knob and opens the door to Lane's office. She peaks her head inside, feeling the warmth of the fireplace. But not as warm as she had expected.
"Lane?" She softly asks.
Katie first sees Lane standing in the middle of the room. She smiles happily at the sight of him and opens the door.
"Lane, what are you doing up this late-" Suddenly something catches Katie's eye.
On the floor lays Warren, blood oozing from a puncture in his chest. Katie covers her mouth in horror. She starts to move forward to go to her friend but Lane slowly turns around to face her. He has a sharp dagger in his hand. It is covered with Warren's blood. The blonde feels cold sweat roll down her body as she is frozen in place at the office door. Lane quickly makes his way over to her, the knife aiming for her chest.
"Lane..." Katie's lips move softly yet she hears her own screams echoing around her. "Lane!"
Katie begins gasping as her eyes grow wide with terror. As the knife draws closer and closer to her chest, she stares into Lane's eyes in terror. There's excitement and rage in his eyes. Ready for the kill. Darkness that only leaves the blonde in fear.
"Lane!" The blonde screams
Katie puts her hands up in front of her, pushing against his chest as she falls backwards. Lane falls with her. As the knife pokes her chest, her body jerks.
A muffled, high pitched scream wakes Lane. He groans, rubbing his face.
Damn bitches. Lane begins to roll over in the bedsheets. Has no respect for others trying to sleep.
Another high pitched scream. Lane grumbles, annoyed by his gang. He gets up and grabs a robe, wrapping his naked body in the cotton fabric. He stomps to the door grumbling tiredly annoyed.
"Shut up-" Lane begins to bark.
"Lane!" The terror filled, shrill like voice causes alarms to go off in the crime lord's mind. "Lane!"
Lane begins to rush down the hallway. Margo opens her door, nearly trampled by the crime lord rushing to the bedroom at the end of the hallway. The same bedroom Katie had moved herself into when they had arrived back from the job. Another scream.
"Lane!" Katie screams louder more terrified.
The others emerge out of their bedrooms. Lane grabs the door knob and yanks the door open, he flips on the light to see Rebel comforting a crying Katie. The sight gives him relief.
"What the hell is going on here?" Lane tiredly barks.
"Angel had a nightmare." Rebel answers softly, petting the blonde's head softly as she cries. "She's okay now."
Seeing Katie's blotched face covered in her own tears makes Lane feel conflicted. He wants to go to her and comfort her but she had told him she didn't want him to ever touch her again. That he was the devil.
Max rushes in, her dyed pixie cut matter to the front of her face. She pants, giving them a confused look.
"What the hell?" Max asks, "Did someone get killed?"
"Me!" Katie softly cries, her shoulders moving as she bawls into Rebel's lap.
Lane turns away, walking out. The others all look to him expectantly. The crime lord shakes his head at them.
"Go to bed, false alarm."
Hey readers! Comment your thoughts on the newest chapter update! So I was already planning on chapter to be about Katie having a nightmare about Lane coming at her with a knife and Clilliesandroses made a comment that perhaps Katie could have a nightmare in the comment section of Chapter 27 😁👍🏼 She often comments ideas as I have already started writing the same idea. Two great minds think alike I suppose. It's kind of hilarious though coincidental 😂🤷🏼♀️❤️
