Katie slowly made her way to her usual seat in the dining room, which is next to Lane's seat at the head of the table. He hadn't come in from the library, but Gabriella had. She kept wiping her silent tears, but refused to explain why she was crying. The Latina glared in Katie's direction several times.

Max kicks Katie's foot from across the table. The blonde gasps, staring wide eyed at the second in command from across the table. She motions to Rebel beside her. Katie looks to her friend, whose eyes are filled with suspicion.

"What happened?" Rebel silently mouths across the table, a brow arched.

"You'll see." The blonde winks st her.

Rebel and Max give each other a worried look before looking back at the blonde. Katie picks up her spoon and begins eating the bowl of soup. Cassie approaches her with a small smile.

"I was going to get some grape juice, do you want some?" Cassie asks sweetly, motioning to the fact the blonde doesn't have anything to drink.

"Yes, thank you." Katie smiles, being polite.

Suddenly, the blonde feels warm body heat fanning over her cold one. She tries to withhold a shiver as Lane leans into her, his warm lips burn against the cold skin of her ear. He hesitates for a moment.

"I need to speak with you immediately after dinner." Lane's warm breath tickles her skin, making her shiver. "So don't run off."

Katie nods, not quite having the courage to look him in the eyes. She knows that if she were to, Lane will read her thoughts as if it were written on her forehead and then she'd be in trouble. Sudden guilt and fear fills her.

I don't want to go out there in minus twenty degrees to get her ratty clothes! Katie snarls her nose in disgust, shivering hard. They're not worth saving anyways.

"What? Is there something wrong with my soup?" Marco asks from down the table, arching a brow at the blonde.

"No, no! It's very good." Katie shakes her head, her ponytail bouncing. "I'm just a little cold."

Cassie suddenly appears, setting the glass of grape juice down. Katie nods, continuously avoiding eye contact with Lane.

"Thank you." She mumbles, immediately taking a big drink from the glass. "Ahh..."

All the while Katie is trying to avoid eye contact with him, Lane studies her hard. He had felt the coolness of her skin. At first he assumed it had been due to her taking the dogs out to relieve themselves, but now he is unsure. But from his long experience as a crime lord, Lane knows that when people don't look him in the eyes, it's usually because their hiding something. And Katie is a bad liar.
