They say that you shall not want to be a mermaid
For to be a mermaid is to be sexually available, yet also removed
It's a mystery whether the tail opens up
But it is generally assumed that it doesn't - making the mermaid a symbol of sexual availability and sin
Mermaids have a head to see the world but a tail to bring them back to the water
Looking for a soul, for the are knowledgable of the world's treasures, and plagued by spirit
To be a mermaid is to recognize the hard truths of being alone in life
That to be spiritual and a mystic, you must be content to never join the world of men
I'm not one to be caught up in the illusions of this world - we mermaids are mere aliens to your kind than anything else
But there is a certain wind of loneliness - to know that you can never be understood nor loved for who you really are
To dream about him is futile
To dream of the universe is to step out of the door
But to dream of him - of the one
Even as my own face falls of and I turn into a water hag
I'll sing melodies of darkness, of the underworld, of the poor truths of having a haeart too taken by love
But I'll deny the maiden of having another chance
And I'll envy the Earth maidens, for they will go on living as if I've never existed, raising babies while men go about business, ignorant to the trappings ofyou
The Earth will act like I am not
Hiding in the pond
And I'll simply forget I exist
