you lose your promise ring

You grumbled angrily under your breath and stomped out of the bathroom and back into the bedroom in search of your promise ring.

It didn't make any sense to you; it had been on your finger just last night, like it's been for the last eight months. It was your birthday gift from Selena and you cherished it. You've always been careful with it and it's not like it just slides off your finger. It fits perfectly.

You've been searching high and low for it. Looking in the most random and even ridiculous places, somehow convincing yourself that there was a chance it could be anywhere.

You started to strip the bed. You shook out the sheets but when it turned up empty you started to take off each pillowcase and shake out every blanket. But still, you turned up empty-handed.

You groaned loudly, feeling frustrated, and a little anxious. You loved that ring. It was the sweetest thing anyone has ever given you before and it came from Selena's heart; to you, it was irreplaceable.

"Whoa! What happened in here?" Selena wondered as she came inside the bedroom, finally home after running a few errands today. You awkwardly avoided eye contact, but that only seemed to make her more suspicious.

"What's going on?"

She sat down on the naked bed beside you. She tried to hold your hand but you pulled away with a lopsided smile, trying to hide your bare finger from her. "Y/n, talk to me. Did something happen? Are you... missing something?"

"Maybe, I-" Your words got stuck on the tip of your tongue as you thought back to what she had just said. You looked her in her eyes and watched as a smirk appeared on her face. "What did you do with my promise ring?"

She sighed and then grabbed your hand. "I'd tell you, I would. But I haven't actually planned out how to give it to you quite yet, angel."

You could tell she was excited about whatever it was, but you were so desperate for that beautiful and sentimental ring to be back on your finger. "Sel, I love you, I do. But I want my ring back!" You whined, causing a laugh to fall from her lips.

"You're sure?"

You nodded and watched her pull a box out from her pocket. You looked back into her sparkling brown eyes. "Open it, sunshine." She smiled.

You did as she said and what you were met with took your breath away. It was a ring. A much bigger ring. A much more... meaningful ring.

You wondered if it meant what it did, and Selena took your hand and gave it a squeeze. "I honestly hadn't planned out how I'd ask you to marry me, I just knew that I wanted to do it soon." She paused and knelt on the floor in front of you. Her other hand moved to your thigh, her thumb brushed soft circles onto your skin.

"I told you that day that I gave you that ring that when the time was right, I'd be giving you a different one. This is it, y/n."

You had tears in your eyes as you looked between her and the ring in the box.

"This is how I wanna spend the rest of my life; falling more and more in love with you each and every day. Marry me?"

You nodded tearfully and threw your arms around her. A short kiss was placed to your lips and you pulled away a few seconds later. Selena grabbed the ring from the box and slid it onto your finger.

"It's perfect."

"Like you." She mumbled as her hand came up to caress your cheek.

You hugged her tightly and buried your face in the crook of her neck. You both let a few tears of happiness fall from your eyes as you just held each other, feeling grateful and happier than ever before.

You really get to spend forever with her.

You had never been more excited about anything before.
