she thinks you forgot her birthday

*I originally wrote and published this on Selena's birthday but I'm republishing it today since there were so many issues that day*

She could hear your footsteps on the stairs as you raced up to your shared bedroom. She didn't pay you any mind though, not even when you reached the bedroom and stood in the doorway.

"Selena? What are you doing?"

She munched on the snack in her hand and nodded toward the tv. "What does it look like? I'm watching tv." She mumbled.

"But why? I texted you. I hoped you'd be ready by the time I got home!"

She shrugged her shoulders and kept her gaze on the tv. It suddenly went black, causing her to groan.
"Y/n! Why'd you do that?"

You had the cord of the tv in your hand, having unplugged it from the wall.

"Look it doesn't even matter. I don't wanna go anywhere with you. Not when you can't even remember what today is. You text me to be ready but you can't even remember that it's my birthday." She crossed her arms over her chest, looking anywhere but at you.

She heard you sigh heavily before you made your way to the bed. You sat beside her, laying your hand on her thigh, and as much as she wanted to push you away your touch was just too comforting.

"You really think I'd forget your birthday? After two years of me not forgetting a single thing in our relationship, you think I'd start now?" You rubbed her thigh in soft circles with your thumb. "I wanted to surprise you. But I can't handle the thought of you thinking I forgot something so special."

You watched her head lift to look at you.

"I threw you a surprise party! That's why I've been gone this afternoon. I was setting everything up."

Her eyes went wide. She stayed quiet for a moment. You watched as your words sank in and even though the surprise had been ruined, you couldn't find it in you to be upset about it when her frown disappeared and a bright smile took its place.

"Really?"

"Really, Sel. I invited your family and your friends. Everyone is there, waiting on us."

She threw her arms around you and you felt her giggle against the skin of your neck. "I can't believe you'd do something like that for me." She said as she pulled away, her smile never falling.

"You're my girl, Sel. Your birthday is so special, so important to me. Don't ever forget that, please."

She nodded and leaned in for a quick kiss.

"You need to get ready! Go get dressed and please try to act surprised." You pouted but it turned into a smile when she kissed you again.

"Give me ten minutes and I'll be ready. You're truly incredible! I love you, angel!" She yelled as she ran into the bathroom, her sad mood now long gone as she prepared for the day ahead.
