Chapter 73 : The Fall

Jongin cleared his throat when he reached the top of the wall, facing his father's back as he had looked out into the distance and the forest.

He stopped besides him to fold his hands behind his back, looking out aswell.

'' I heard you talked to solin "

Jongin looked down at that when he couldnt pin point what the tone in his father's voice had meant.
'' y-yeah ... I was worried about her so I talked to her "

'' she's a strong young woman "
Jongin shifted as he placed his hands on the walls to lean forward onto them lightly, feeling uncomfortable when his fingers scratched the stone underneath them '' I... em ..I know .."

'' do you have feelings for her ?"

He bit his lip not knowing if the elder would like his answer but he didnt see a point in lying at this time it was obvious that he had heard about the proposal and the canceling of it.
'' no .. I thought I did but no.. I mean no I'm sorry I never liked her in that way.. I just thought it may have been easier. "

Without looking at him his father turned to lay a hand on his shoulder, tightening his grip there.
'' shes not right for you "

It surprised jongin to hear that when he frowned and turned to him.
'' I thought this would be what you wanted "

The elder nodded hesitant as he swallowed himself. He'd never seen his father so hesitant, struggling with words so it grabbed all his attention. As he turned to him when he lowered his hand from his shoulder again.
'' it was .." the king started '' until I realized... what.. "

'' what ?"

His father looked down with a sigh
'' we wont win this war jongin... your uncle didnt tell you, but our castle had been taken over aswell the K kingdom has fallen "

Jongin stood straight with wide eyes as he stared at his father in shock, backing away from his touch.
'' what !? what about mothe-"
'' the queen is save, most of our people are scattered over villages nearby... villages, that have tried to stay hidden from ..us. They took us in treated the wounded and provided us with food .." the pain was evident in the kings eyes but there was also regret and realization.

His own people feared him and tried to hide away. Jongin figured it must've been some sort of a wake up call to him even if he hadnt realized or wanted to admit he was wrong yet.
'' it's a mess, jongin a big big mess we cant fix it, it's far too late.
They elves overtaking this castle will just be another step. It wont take long until more have been taken over then they will hunt us down like animals-"
'' like we have hunted and burned them down you mean ?"

His father frowned hard seemingly still trying to deny his and most of the
Humans wrong doings.
'' we wont win against the elves ..."

'' what do you mean, kyungsoo said we can try to talk to them-"
'' kyungsoo " he cut him off looking into the forest again '' the siren... "

Jongin was quiet, watching him as he expected him to say something else about his hate or problem on having him here but he didnt instead he smiled weakly.
'' he's a growing leader isn't he ?
Brave, smart, strong .. "
'' what are you saying ?"
Jongin wasnt sure if he was patronizing him. He couldnt tell if it was meant serious or if he should act defensive.
