"Up and at 'em Mira! We have quidditch practice in twenty." Keeping my eyes closed, I attempt to sit up; only to smack my head against something rock solid. Opening my eyes, I see a mess of orange hair, then recognize the person it belongs to.
"Godric, Mason, what'd you do that for?" Fred Weasley snaps, rubbing his forehead in pain.
"It's not my fault you were so bloody close to me, Frederick. Besides, I already told you. I am NOT playing quidditch this year!" I sigh, laying my head back down on my pillow. I can sense Fred's eyes on me like lasers, which I try to ignore. "Can you please let me sleep?" I grunt at him as I roll over to face the window.
"I'll bring in the reinforcements if necessary. Ginny's already on her broom, guess how upset she'll be when she doesn't have her favorite teammate up and next to her in," he pauses, I assume to check his watch, "18 minutes."
I open my eyes just enough to see what's going on through the window. Sure enough, I see Ginny flying about excitedly with a quaffle in her hand. She's been waking up hours before anyone else in the Burrow, practicing all by herself to prove to her brothers that she's just as good at quidditch as they are. As I look on, I see a dark figure cross between me and the glass, then see a pair of large hands throwing the window open.
"Oi! Ginny! George! She's not getting up!" Fred yells to his siblings. Not a second passes, yet Ginny is already tumbling through the window. Just barely behind her flies in George. Oh George, with his messy hair and cheeky grin. Except now, there's no smile plastered across his face. George looks at me and shakes his head, opening his mouth to say something.
He is cut off by Ginny, who crosses her arms and begins to chastise me. "You knew the terms of coming to stay with us this summer! You promised you would help me get better at quidditch. You haven't even touched your broom since you got here" She pouts.
She's right, and I feel an instant pang of guilt. A week before the end of term last year, my fifth year, my parents had written of a work opportunity which would take them west, to America, for the whole summer. They offered to let me go with them or to stay with my aunt in Ireland, both of which would keep me from seeing any of my friends for the entire summer.
The twins immediately shot down both options and asked their parents if I could stay with them instead. The twins and I have been friends since our first day at Hogwarts, so naturally Mr and Mrs Weasley obliged. Ginny had made up her own terms, saying she would only share her room if I taught her some of my most successful broom maneuvers; which I agreed to.
The summer was almost over, but as the Weasley's practiced right outside of my window everyday, I studied. The twins and I had just taken our OWLs last year, and our coursework was about to get much more difficult as we moved onto our NEWT level classes. It took about a week of contemplation for me to decide that school had outweighed quidditch, much to the dismay of all the Weasley children.
A sweet, deep voice breaks my concentration as George softly reprimands his sister. "Gin, you know why. Give her a break would you?" As he finishes his sentence, he is smacked behind the head by Fred. "Don't be a git, George! You're meant to be on our side!"
I giggle, sitting up and sighing. George and I make eye contact for just a second before he turns and looks down at his feet, intently staring at the ground instead of looking at me.
"One little practice can't hurt, can it?" I say, and all three teenagers in my room erupt in cheers.
