Our first day I followed Hermione to potions with professor slughorn. I smiled when Harry and Ron walked in a few minutes later. "No more spare?" Harry shook his head, "unfortunately not." I smiled making room for him at the table.
We began brewing amortentia potion, a type of love potion that was supposed to smell like the person you loved most. Shortly into brewing it, I realized mine was not working out well. Harry nudged me, "follow these instructions." I looked at the book he was using doing as it directed. Slughorn walked over approving them both. "Amazing truly both of you." I smiled at Harry, "thank you." Near the end of class we were told to smell our potion, and explain what we smelt. I leaned forward taking mine in, it smelt like warm vanilla pine, it smelt like Cedric. I pushed it away from me not wanting it near me anymore.
I left early making an excuse that I had to go see another professor. In the halls I ran into professor Dumbledore. "Good afternoon Alyssa." I smiled, "hello professor." He held open a door for me, "shall we go to my office?" I shrugged following him, taking a seat across from him at the desk. "I'm sure your summer wasn't great, now was it?" I shook my head no. "You know for a moment at the ministry, I thought you'd broke. Let me show you." I followed him over to the pensive pressing my face into the water. "Relax."
I looked down at the memory seeing myself collapsed down on the ground underneath Harry. I was curled up to him screaming loudly and painfully. It was one of the worst sounds I'd ever heard. It broke my heart now to see how much pain I was in. Voldemort was standing over top of us but I wasn't scared I was too hurt to react. I tried to protect Harry covering his eyes, I didn't want his last sight to be Voldemort. It wasn't fair, not after everything he'd been through. I watched the order appear and I disappeared for a moment. When I came back Remus had his arm around me pushing me through the crowds. I remember how numb I was in that moment blocking out the sounds of all the workers there. I didn't notice it then but I did now. Dumbledore turned around placing a hand on my shoulder which I brushed away.
I pushed myself out staring at him, "why did you show me that. You don't think I remember that night. That I don't replay it every single day. The day Sirius died instead of me. That curse was meant for me." He nodded, "indeed it was. But if that curse hit you, I know Sirius Remus your friends wouldn't be able to live with themselves. You and Harry can pull through, you always do."
"Harry's going to see a memory tonight too. And things are not going to be easy, but you two need to stick together." I put my head in my hands, "Draco's in trouble professor. If you want me to help Harry, I need you to help Draco." Dumbledore nodded, "Of course." I stood up walking around his office, "don't think I don't know how much you've helped me these past years. You're not as sneaky as you think professor." He laughed, "goodnight Alyssa."
The next few weeks Harry and I had been excelling at potions which only made Hermione quite bitter towards us. "Who did that book belong to anyway?" She asked us one night. I remembered seeing the cover that read the half blood prince, one day, but I wasn't sure who that was. I let them fight over it, instead deciding to leave the common room. I was heading down the stairs when I saw Draco hurrying down a hallway. Quickly I raced after him, trying to keep myself as hidden as possible.
He stood in front of the room of requirements looking around cautiously before pressing his hand up against the wall. "Ms. Malfoy." I spun around to see Snape standing behind me. "Return to your common room immediately." I looked at Draco one last time before sighing and walking away. I didn't go back to my common room instead I walked outside to the lake, I smiled when I saw Cedric's bench. I squeezed the plaque staring at the water.
"Things would be a lot easier if you were here right now Cedric." I set my head in my hands, stressed. "Sirius is gone." I whispered. "I don't know if you knew that. I'm sure you did, I hope you two talk. Maybe you're both looking down on me now thinking I'm crazy talking to myself." I smiled to myself, "somethings wrong with Draco. Not that you could magically appear and tell me what's wrong, but I thought I'd let you know. Maybe you guys have some sort of secret powers now that you're dead. If you do you should help him. For me." I threw a couple rocks listening to the sound as they dropped into the lake. "Goodnight Ced."
