Early the next morning I put on a large sweater and a pair of jeans. I wanted to get this over with while I was still angry. Everything felt slightly more real when I woke up, I knew I could send Cedric a letter but I would never get one in return, and Sirius was right it did hurt.
They weren't up yet and I was hesitant to wake them up in case either changed their mind. Slowly I pushed open the door, and to my surprise they were awake sitting in their beds talking. "Morning." Remus smiled, I nodded, "I'm ready." Sirius rolled his eyes, "you're really doing this?" I tried to ignore him, "I need answers, I need to know, the world has made it clear I don't deserve much but I know I deserve this." Remus held up his hand to stop Sirius from saying anything else. "Come on." I followed him downstairs to the fireplace. "Be careful please." I nodded grabbing a handful of floo powder.
When I arrived the house seemed fairly silent. "Ms. Malfoy." Our house elf greeted me. "Hello, where is everyone?" She pointed me into the direction of the family room. I made my way there, memories of my father torturing me flooded my head. My mother and father were sitting together whispering about something serious. "Alyssa?" My mother stared at me in pure confusion. She stood up wrapping her arms around me tightly. "I'm so sorry baby." I squeezed my eyes shut burying my head on her shoulder. My father walked up behind her. "What are you doing here?" I glared up at him, "I came for answers." He smirked, "haven't come to kill me in the most painful and unimaginable way possible?" I shook my head, "not today." My mother kissed my forehead and then left the room. "I'll be right in the kitchen sweetheart."
"I don't know what you think I'm going to tell you..." I shook my head, "just shut up." He raised his eyebrows, "seems like they've forgotten to teach you manners at that horrid place." I sighed forgetting how awful it was to have a conversation with him. "I loved him." My father sat down, "I'm sure you did." I stared at him in disbelief, "in the two years we dated he showed me more love and compassion than you did my entire life. You're not half the man he was. He was everything to me, and you took that away."
He shook his head, "no Alyssa I didn't." I threw my arms up, "then who did. All I know was that he was here one second, dead the next." My father sighed, "even if I were to tell you, there's nothing you could do about it." I groaned, "what aren't you understanding, I need to know." He shook his head, "the only think I'm going to tell you is the dark lord is back, and it wouldn't be wise to go after him." I was taken back, "what do you mean he's back?" My father shrugged, "that's all I'm telling you." I sat down, "why didn't you kill me?" He looked at me confused, "I was never going to kill you Alyssa. As much as I dislike you, you're still my daughter." I scoffed, "you lost the right to call me your daughter last year." He raised his eyebrow, "I suppose that's true." I rolled my eyes, "is that supposed to be an apology?" He shook his head, "I think we're done here." I sighed, "he didn't deserve to die. I hope you know that." My father stood up, "I know." I threw my arms up, "so that's it? You're done so the conversations done?" He pushed open the door, "I'm sorry for your loss."
I collapsed back down frustrated, I heard the door creak open. Draco came in sitting down beside me, "how are you doing Lyss?" I lay my head on his shoulder, "it hurts," I whispered. He put his arm around my shoulder, "I'm sorry." I stayed quiet taking comfort in his presence. "I want to give you answers, but I don't have any." I sighed, "he only told me the dark lord was back." Draco nodded, "he is, I know that much." I took a shaky breath, "who do you think killed Cedric?" I could feel him shift, "could have been anyone, any death eater." I shook my head, "was it there in that graveyard?" Draco sighed, "I believe so." I looked down at my feet, feeling more and more empty as the time passed. "He was supposed to stay with me, he was my person Draco. The only one I told everything to right from the start." Draco nodded, "I know he was." I bit my lip, "I hope he's okay. I know I'm not going to be."
