Classes went on the same the only difference being we had curfews now. Harry recently told me about some sort of map, it showed where everyone was inside of the castle, also led you to secret passages which is how Harry planned to get to Hogsmeade. After he finished telling me, "so you gonna come? To Hogsmeade?" I smiled shaking my head no, "I can't." He shrugged, "why not if I can so can you." I looked away, "Cedric's taking me on a castle date, or at least that's what he called it." Harry smirked, "care to explain what a castle date is?" I laughed, "I'll let you know tomorrow night." He nodded, "the holidays are next week Alyssa, Ron invited me to stay with him. You know they'd do the same for you." I nodded, "I'm just not ready. It's embarrassing, and it hurts." Harry wrapped his arms around me, "I'm really sorry, you should feel comfortable telling us things we're your friends." I smiled, "I will tell them, when I'm ready."
I then made my way to potions, Draco and Goyle were also on their way to the dungeon. "Ready for potions?" Draco snickered. He said it angrily but he was taking an interest in my life. I chose to ignore him, "run along Goyle," he instructed the boy. "So what are your plans next week?" Draco asked. I glared at him not responding. "Weasleys?" I shook my head no. "I'm probably staying here, not sure why you're worried about it. I won't miss the fancy dinners and the lack of love." He snickered, "love, funny isn't it. Because when I look around, I don't see anyone who loves you." I stormed ahead leaving him behind, "did I hit a nerve there sister?" I spun around coming face to face with him. "Don't call me your sister. I hate you in a way that I've never hated anyone before." I raised my wand to his neck. "Alyssa." Harry shouted pulling me away. Ron scowled at Draco, "ignore him Lyss." Draco smiled, "your knights in shining armour, well I guess Weasleys armour wouldn't be shining." I lunged forward connecting my fist with his face. This made Draco whip his books at me, I was about to hit back when Snape rounded the corner. "What is all this ruckus?" He hissed. "She hit me professor, I was just walking to class and she ran up to me." Snape nodded, "I see, detention Malfoy." I started to protest, "you even dare speak a word I promise it will be a full week of detention." I bit my lip angrily walking into the classroom taking my seat.
Ron stayed quiet the entire class, and I didn't look at Snape or Draco once. As soon as my classes were over I stayed in my room skipping supper spending my time being angry and upset with Draco. The one person who was with me through my entire miserable childhood, turned against me so quickly. We tolerated each other our first two years, and something changed this year as much as I hated him and the way he was treating me, it killed me seeing the brother I was once so close with, stroll through the halls completely icing me out.
At seven I made my way to the dungeons shocked to see Professor Lupin sitting there. "Ms.Malfoy, take a seat." I sat in front of the desk. "We're gonna be marking some tests." I nodded grabbing a stack, "where's Professor Snape?" Lupin looked up, "I owed him a favour." I began grading the tests in front of me, "so Alyssa. What brings us here?" I avoided his eyes, "I hit Draco." He nodded, "I'm sure he gave you a reason." I bit my lip, "he gives me a reason everyday. He just abandoned me." Professor Lupin gave me a small smile, "it's normal around the holidays to feel lonely." I scoffed, "I don't just feel lonely." I shook my head angry at myself, "it doesn't matter anyway." Lupin stood up passing me a tea, "I have a story to tell you, but it stays between us. Promise?" I nodded. "Remember how I told you I knew someone who went through something you're going through?" I nodded again urging him to continue on. "That boy was Sirius Black, me Sirius, James Potter, and a boy named Petter Pettigrew were extremely close."
I didn't know what to think. "He tried to leave your family, and he finally left at 16. Roughly same age you're leaving." I shrugged, "I don't have much of a choice." Remus shook his head, "neither did he Alyssa, it was become a death eater or be disowned. The Malfoy and Black family don't care about each other. Your father as much as it may hurt does not genuinely care for you, just as Sirius' parents didn't for him." I was holding back my tears, it hurt most knowing how obvious my fathers hate for me was. "Why'd he become what he did then? There's no saying that won't happen to me." Lupin sighed, "that could've happened to anyone. Anyone Alyssa. No matter where they came from." I nodded continuing to mark the tests. "I said you could talk to me whenever, it may prove to be more useful then taking your anger out on your brother." I smiled, "in all honestly it's not like he doesn't deserve it." He nodded, "maybe, but he might be hurting too, he's gone from having someone there, who understands, to no one. And I am not saying that justifies his behaviour, but just think about that." I looked away, maybe Draco was hurting too. We didn't talk often, we weren't allowed to when Father was home. But we were together, we were just kids forced to grow up in that awful house. Professor Lupin checked his watch, "you're free to go Alyssa." I gave him a small smile standing up, "thank you." He nodded, "of course, maybe keep some distance between you and Draco."
