(Lexi's POV)
~Still a flashback~
It has been 30 minutes since the bus had started moving.
I have been looking out the window the whole time. I decide to check up on Noah.
I glance at him and notice how pale he looks. That's his sick face.
"Noah? You uh... you feeling okay?"
"Shit uh... no. I think I'm gonna be sick." He heaves. I instantly holler to the bus driver.
"Hey! Um.. excuse me! You need to pull over the bus! My brother's gonna puke." I yell up to the bus driver.
"Under no circumstances will I stop this bus!" The man shouts back.
"Lexi." Noah grits his teeth together. "I can probably hold it. I don't want to risk anybody just because I'm a little sick—" My brother suddenly covering his mouth with his hand, gagging a bit.
"Do you want him to throw up all over everyone?!" I remark. I wasn't trying to be selfish. I know that we're in a dangerous situation, but there isn't exactly a trash can lying around...
He has a thinking face on. Then he suddenly pulls over.
"Go. You have five minutes to clear your system. Then we're leaving. No question." He says aggressively.
I help Noah stand up and we rush out of the bus.
I lead him into the forest beside the road and behind a tree and he immediately throws up. I try not to look, then I would get sick as well.
This goes on for about three minutes.
Once he's done we hear honking. That bus driver has no chill.
As we start to walk back, I hear faded screaming. Kids?
"What's that?" Noah states shakily.
The horn continued to honk.
"Why is he honking repeatedly?" I think aloud. "He's scaring the kids." Noah and I slowly approach where the bus was parked.
Then we see it.
The bus driver wasn't honking, or at least not intentionally. His face was completely blank and his head was against the steering wheel causing it to honk. I glance at his neck and see a giant bite mark. Oh no.
I redirect my attention towards the kids. They're are still screaming. I see it. One of those things.. or people.. that were walking on the road earlier. Wait..
It's.. inside the bus.
The kids screamed louder. This is what my mother meant by the infected people doing "horrific things." Once I saw that.. thing.. bite into the arm of a pre-teen, I knew I had seen enough. I grabbed Noah's hand and we sprinted.. well I sprinted. Noah was still in shock so I still had to pull him a bit. I hated what I saw. Those infected people are acting like.. zombies?
No that's not right. Right? Those aren't real. They are just horror characters in scary movies.
We continue to sprint, my dark brunette hair whipping behind me. I knew Noah would need a break soon but we had to find somewhere safe to go.
We have to find mom.
