(Noah's POV)

My eyes flutter open after hearing a beeping sound near me. I look around.

I'm lying in a bed, though it isn't very comfortable. The more I look around, the more I realize that I'm in a hospital room.

After looking around, I glance down at my body. Mostly my wrist.

My wrist is bandaged very tightly, and very well for that matter. From my waist and below, a light blanket covers me.

Suddenly, I hear the door to the room creak open. A doctor appears and enters cautiously.

"Oh, you're finally awake." He sighs in relief. I scratch the back of my head. How is this possible? "Am I... dead?"

The white coated man in front of me chuckles and straightens out his glasses. "Ha! You're funny kid. No, you're just fine."

"I... I don't understand at all."

"You're family drove you to this hospital here. You're lucky us doctors and nurses stuck around after this apocalypse started. Your wrist was in pretty bad shape. A bite, huh?"

"But that's what I don't get. I was bit. So why... am I still here?"

The doctor stands up. "I'll be back in a second. You're family is worried sick." He smiles and exits my room.

(Jasper's POV)

Lexi, Cooper, and I have been sitting outside of Noah's room since we arrived last night.

We... have lost hope. In his survival, and all. Tears begin to roll down my face for the twelfth time today.

I.. I didn't even get to tell him. Why didn't I just do it sooner?! God.

Lexi has been extremely hateful towards me as well. She hates that I made him go into the woods. And... I hate that too. This is all my fault.

I don't know if she'll ever forgive me.

Lexi walks over to Cooper and hugs him tightly, leaving me out of the whole thing. I didn't blame her. She was right to be angry with me.

After awhile, Doctor Harris exits Noah's room.

"Is there anyway we could have... a funeral service of some sort, Doctor?" Lexi mumbles with a cracky voice. "H-He deserves it. I'm not just gonna let him go like that."

Doctor Harris seems to raise an eyebrow in confusion. His look turns sympathetic almost immediately with a smile.

"That.. won't be necessary." Harris immediately opens the door to Noah's room and steps aside for us to walk in.

We all glance at each other in extreme confusion.

Lexi steps in first while slowly taking her time to look at the bed. Before I know it, she's sprinting into the room with... a smile.

"Noah! You're okay?!"

Cooper and I shoot each other surprised looks before running in after her. Noah was... alive?

Lexi steps out of the hug and Cooper follows after, leaving me as the last one.

I lean down and engulf him into a hug. "How is this even possible?" Tears stream down my face with joy.

"I don't know either." Noah mumbles while hugging me back.

"Go easy on him, he's still quite tired." Doctor Harris steps in the room and we all back away from Noah, hoping for a logical answer.

"Harris, why didn't he turn?" Cooper questions.

Harris wipes off his glasses with his shirt before continuing. "In all honesty, it's a miracle. We've never seen anything like this during the apocalypse. We did have an idea of maybe what happened..."
