(Jasper's POV)
Don'tcrashthecardon'tcrashthecardon'tcrashthecar.
I take a glance back at the trio in the backseat through the rear view mirror. Lexi has a shit ton of worry across her face while holding a jacket against Cooper's wound. That would be the second time he's been shot. Ms. Ashwell seems to be unsure of what to do, so she just stares out the window.
I glance over at Noah who seems pretty on edge with everything. Especially the fact that I'm driving without a license. He grips his seat tightly while squinting his eyes at the road.
"Jasper? Maybe I should drive to be safe." Ms. Ashwell offers. Normally I would say yes but it's too risky. There's gonna be a shit ton of people looking for us. This antidote is pretty valuable.
"We don't have the time to stop. I'll be careful." I assure. I look at her through the rear view mirror and see her nod hesitantly. "Noah honey.. why don't you get some rest? Ok sweetheart?" She yawns.
I see Noah get embarrassed over the nicknames but he ignores them. "Yeah... I will mom. Goodnight." He says while turning his head towards his window and leaning it against the seat.
I glance back at Lexi and Cooper. "Is he doing alright?"
Lexi hums a yes. "I think so.. he's been coming in and out of consciousness." I nod at that. "Lexi just try and go to sleep like the others.. I'm sure he'll be okay if you do."
"I was actually just about to. G'night everyone." She yawns. Noah and Ms. Ashwell mumble 'goodnights' and the car is dead silent.
Short time skip~
I hear some shuffling in the seat beside me. "Can't sleep?" I say. Noah sits up in his seat and rubs his face. "Yeah." He replies plainly.
I make a turn onto a highway. "Is it because you think I'm going to crash?" I tease jokingly. Noah scoffs a bit in a playful way. "It's better you than me. We would've ended up in the ditch before I turned on the car."
I chuckle a bit at that. "Is there something bothering you? Is that why you can't sleep?" I decide to pry. He glances at me and shakes his head. "It's nothing."
We stay silent for a while. "Where are we um.. where are we headed to?" Noah breaks the silence. I shake my head and laugh a bit. "I honestly don't know. We have to drive a while to get away from anyone who could be looking for us. We of course have the people from the bunker searching for us, but we also have Carlos's crew. Remember?"
"How could I forget?" Noah says a bit sarcastically. "We met those awful kids there, we were being lied to the whole time-" "Sounds a bit like the bunker huh?" I interrupt. Noah glances at me before shaking his head. "I actually enjoyed the bunker. There weren't many strict rules, we made friends, and we overall were... safe. We were safe there."
I give him a questionable glance. "We'll be safe again. We just need to get Cooper and Lexi back to normal." He nods. "I hope Rae and Ezra are okay. They did help us after all." Noah mumbles.
"Yeah, me too. Hopefully the scientists don't figure that out."
We both go silent not knowing what to say. I glance over at him and notice how frustrated he looks. "Are you sure there isn't anything that's bothering you?" I inquire. I wasn't trying to be nosy or anything but he looked pretty uncomfortable.
He squints his eyes and pinches the bridge of his nose. "I just..." He lets out a groan into his hands which makes my eyes go wide with curiosity. I chuckle a bit. "Take your time Ashwell, damn."
He leans back into his seat. "No... I was just really worried earlier is all. With Ryder."
I nod. "Yeah I understand. The whole lounge situation must've freaked you out a bit, huh?"
Noah stays silent for a second. "Jasper, I'm talking about what went down before we left."
Something clicks in my brain and I glance over at him. "Uh... well it's fine. I mean your mom handled it pretty well so it's all good."
Noah shakes his head. "It's not fine. I can't believe he would've..." He trails off while groaning into his hands.
"It was just... scary seeing you like that. You're always so protective over me so it was different seeing you vulnerable like that." Noah mumbles.
I look over to the sad boy next to me. "You were really scared I was gonna die." I conclude. Noah nods. "Well, yeah. I don't think of you as invincible or anything."
I smile. "Well that hurts."
Noah glances over at my neck which causes me to raise an eyebrow. "You still have bruises... is it painful?"
I shrug. "I mean, a little. It'll go away though."
Noah nods, unsure. "Yeah.. hopefully."
I let out a laugh. "Noah it's okay. I understand why you're worried but let's just focus on finding a place to stay, alright?"
He huffs a laugh. "Yeah, okay."
I turn on a gravel road going through some trees.
A noticeable shabby looking building through the trees is not far off. A cabin? A cabin! I turn towards where I saw it. I weave throughout the wide spaced trees.
As I got closer, I realized how well this was hidden. I mean, sure, I saw it. But it looks pretty beat up. If anything, people would think it's abandoned at first sight. This could be perfect.
I slowly park the car and turn to Noah. "What do you think?"
He laughs. "It's perfect."
