(Noah's POV)
I awake to the sun shining on my face, beaming through my room's big window. I sit up and stretch my arms, remembering we would be leaving today.
I rub the sleep from my eyes before hearing a knock on my door.
"Come in..." I yawn.
The door opens with a creak and Lexi trots in. "Morning, Noah. You need to get dressed to leave and check if I missed anything while loading up last night. We are leaving in about thirty minutes."
I nod an 'okay' at her and she shuts the door. I hop out of bed and go through my trash bag full of clothing before picking out my outfit. Nothing special, just some jeans, converse, and a flannel since it's getting chillier outside. I run up to my door and lock it to begin getting ready.
As I'm about to pull on my jeans, a rattle comes to my door nob. "G-gimme a sec-" I stammer as I almost trip over my pant leg. I quickly zip up my pants and grab for my flannel.
Another rattle but more aggressive. Dammit Lexi, I'm trying to get ready.
"Lexi just wait a minute, holy crap." I say annoyed. I button my flannel and grab my converse.
Rattle Rattle Rattle is all I hear. "LEXI WHAT THE HELL CAN YOU NOT-" I say louder than expected. Once completely ready, I run up to the door and go to unlock the knob. Before doing so, I hear another rattle and it really ticks me off.
I roll my eyes and scoff before swinging the door open.
"Lexi, I swear to-"
Before I can finish, a figure blocks my view of everything ahead of me and I am shoved to the ground. Looking up I realize what it is.
A biter. It's mouth is swinging all the way down to it's forearm and it's eyes are blank white. It goes to pin me to the ground but i roll out of the way just in time.
"Lexi! Cooper! Jasper! Help!" I shout while scrambling up to the door. Before I can get out, I see about five more biters slowly making their way towards me. I shout for my family one last time before closing the door and locking it before more trouble could start.
I quickly turn back around to see the biter slowly standing up again and I panic. What do I do? All of the weapons were loaded into the vehicle last night. The biter moves towards me and I move around the room dodging it. What can I use? Where can I go? How can I-
My thoughts are interrupted by a plate of medical tools. I see a scalpel along the set and my body thinks before my brain does.
I grab the blade and concentrate on the biter. Once it's close enough, I kick its stomach which pushes it pretty far backwards to where I have good aim and remember what Jasper taught me.
I hold the blade up, lining it up to its head, and swiftly swing my arm forward, releasing it in the process.
Bullseye.
The biter drops to the ground after the impact without movement. I actually... killed it.
There are still bangs on my door from other biters until that comes to a stop. I hear grunting before a hard knock. "Noah? Are you okay?"
Jasper.
I rush to the door and swing it open. Before I let him say anything, I say, "I actually killed one." With wide eyes.
He gives a confused look before glancing at the biter below me. "That's.. great. You scared me bad though." He rolls his eyes and hugs me unexpectedly. It surprises me. We haven't had like any physical contact for days and... I'm even more grateful for it now than ever.
