(No ones POV)

After about two hours of driving, the group comes across a big city. They take a moment to look at the giant buildings. Malls broken and abandoned, coffee shops completely ablaze. This is the new normal.

They stumble upon a hospital. Cooper pulls the car into the ambulance lane, closest to the door. The car comes to a slow stop and Cooper turns to look back at Jasper and Noah.

"You two are gonna wait here. Lexi and I can get in and out easily." He says in a stern tone.

"No way! That's a hospital, you know how many dead people are most likely in there?!" Jasper shouts.

Cooper ponders his thoughts. "That's just another reason for you two to stay put. Here.." Cooper pulls out a watch. "If we aren't out by the time the big hand is on the 3, then something is wrong."

"What do you want us to do if something happens..?" Noah asks anxiously.

"You do anything except come in and look for us. I'm talking to you 'Mr. I can handle myself.' " He air quotes at Jasper. Jasper rolls his eyes and scoffs a whatever before Lexi and Cooper hop out of the car and make their way towards the entrance. Cooper holding a handgun and Lexi holding a machete.

(Lexi's POV)

We make our way to the front of the building, weapons in hand. Jasper is right, there has to be more zombies than I can count on my two hands in there. Cooper forces the doors open quietly and we cautiously and quietly walk inside. You could hear a pin drop.

We immediately check our surroundings. A front desk, where a receptionist would sit I'm assuming. A few chairs off to the side for waiting, some paintings and quotes hung along the walls. A basic hospital waiting room.

It looked oddly untouched.

"There's not gonna be any medical supplies in this waiting room, we need to look deeper into the hospital." I nod hesitantly. "We're not gonna split up though, so there shouldn't be much to worry about. This is a big hospital so there will be plenty of emergency exits just in case. Not that anything is gonna happen." Cooper says sternly yet reassuringly.

We push big double doors open and make our way down the hospital hallways as quietly as possible.

(Noah's POV)

We have been sitting in the car for a good five minutes now. Jasper looks really on edge, I can tell he's mad that he wasn't allowed to go with them. "This is such bullshit! They are walking into a death trap and they don't even want us for backup!" He yells. "Well, I think your brother just wants us safe is all.. he's right about the hospital being dangerous." I say nervously. "I can't believe you aren't more shaken! Your sister could die and you're just gonna sit back and watch it escalate!" He yells in my face.

"My sister isn't going to die." I say a bit defensively. "Your brother has been training her for months now so-" "My brother isn't even safe in there!" He interrupts me. Jasper punches the front seat repeatedly out of frustration. "Jasper.. just calm down alright?" I say putting my hand on his shoulder. "They won't be in there for long and this place looks pretty abandoned."

Jasper's breathing slows down slightly and turns to me. "Fuck, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have yelled at you."

I shake my head. "It's okay, you're just worried. So am I. But I trust them. It's gonna be fine."

Jasper pauses for a moment before laughing. "Since when are you the calm and collected one? Usually I'm the one calming you down."

I scoff jokingly. "Hey! I think I've gotten better over these past few months." Jasper smiles. "Yeah, maybe. Still, you're always gonna need me to protect you." He laughs.

My face reddens at that.

"Uhm.. yeah. But not for long! Pretty soon I'll be brave enough to kill any biter that comes my way." I say trying to sound confident. "Biter huh? Is that what you're calling them now?" I shrug. "Yeah, it sounds less horrifying to me than zombie. Zombie makes this whole situation too much like the video games."

"Bit catchier too, huh?" Jasper smiles and nudges me with his elbow.

We talk about random things for awhile after that. I'm just glad I could calm him down before he went full on 'Jasper rage mode'.

(Cooper's POV)

Lexi and I walk slowly down the hallways. I notice a hospital room's door wide open. She doesn't seem to notice. I grab her and pull her back next to me.

"Be careful, that door is open. There could be a zombie nearby." She nods as her shocked face slowly fades away. Why was she so shocked?

I approach the open door. As I expected a zombie creeps slowly towards me. It wears a pink nurses outfit and glasses. I nod towards Lexi. She nods back and swiftly stabs it in the head. The zombie nurse falls to the floor.

We walk fully into the room. There were actually a lot of supplies in here, more than enough actually. Two first aid kits, a tray full of antibiotics, and other helpful things.

I grab at the two first aid kits and toss one to Lexi. We gather the other things and decide that we have collected enough.

"Let's head back out, hopefully they stayed put like we said." Lexi says. I nod and start towards the door. Then I hear something. Shuffled footsteps coming down the hallway. Sounds to be about a couple of people. "Damn it. Jasper and Noah came inside." I say annoyed and stressed. I rush to the hallway to scold them but I stop in my tracks.

A whole mob of zombies at the end of the hallway. Their attention averted to me quickly. They start to growl and try to make their way towards me. "Oh shit." I say. "Lexi we gotta go!" I yell. She rushes to me. Once she notices the mob she grabs my hand and we move quickly down the hallway. We come across a few stray zombies while running, I simply use Lexi's machete and swing at them while we run.

We make it back to the waiting room and sprint for the exit, the zombies not too far behind. We rush outside the see the car. A few zombies banging on the window. I immediately stab them and we get into the car as quickly as possible, locking all the doors. I start up the engine and we barely make it out of the parking lot before that mob tries to jump our car.

Everyone in the car breathes heavily as we make our way away from the mob. That was a close one.
