The Party

(Lexi's POV)

Walking into the cafeteria brought a surprised look to my face. It looked nothing like a cafeteria at all.

Round tables were placed neatly around a large empty space in the middle of the cafeteria. Music was playing loudly and the room was changing colors left and right.

"You know... when they said adult party, I honestly thought they meant just a fancy get together with wine. This is not what I expected." Cooper stares shocked at the scene.

I, on the other hand, smile widely at the party ahead. "Oh c'mon Cooper, this looks so fun! And when was the last party your stubborn ass went to anyway?" I question.

"I- whatever. Let's go get this over with." He growls as he pulls me towards the party. We search the crowd for any recognizable faces. The music is loud so I can't recognize any voices either.

"Hey do you recognize-" I'm suddenly cut off by a tap to my shoulder. I turn around to see my mother. "Alexis you made it! Oh and.. hello Cooper." She smiles but it fades.

"Mom I can't really hear you!" I shout over the music. Suddenly, my mom pulls me to a quieter spot at the party and Cooper follows behind. "What is it, Mom?" I say as we come to a stopping point.

"There is this lovely boy I want you to meet and maybe... dance with." She smirks. Cooper seems to fidget with hair a bit but I let him alone. I roll my eyes. "Mom I'm not gonna meet people. I just came to this because I wanted to do something other than sitting in my pod all day."

She pinches the bridge of her nose and squints her eyes. "Honey these men are..." She looks Cooper up and down slightly. "...worthy to date you. They are all either learning to be a scientist or a nurse or doctor. They will provide so much-"

"Mom I'm not!" I yell. My mother looks appalled at me before huffing. "Enjoy the rest of the party Lexi." She struts back into the party like nothing had happened.

I groan and lean my back against a nearby wall. I feel a heavy hand on my shoulder. "You okay, Lex?" Cooper questions. I slowly nod and compose myself.

"I'm sorry she's like that." I say plainly as I make direct eye contact. Cooper quirks an eyebrow before stammering out a laugh. "Lexi I really don't care. It's good that you told her you don't want to meet anyone right now. That shows her that you're independent enough to form your own opinions about people and who.. you're interested in.." He finishes.

My blank face turns into a slight smile before declaring, "Let's go have some fun!"

I grab Cooper's hand and pull him back into the party.

(Cooper's POV)

The party goes on for a while and it's actually surprisingly fun. I've never been one for social events but I did enjoy the drinks.

Lexi seemed to, too...

She had drank quite a bit of wine throughout the night. All I can say is that she most definitely has more alcohol in her system than food.

I, myself, decided to stay pretty sober for tonight after I saw how much Lexi consumed. I honestly don't think she drank on purpose. She saw a few alcoholic drink pouches and went to town. I wouldn't be surprised if she thought they were just straight up kool-aid.

The party seems to die down a bit after a few hours of dancing. "Lexi?" I say as I grip her shoulder. "I think we should head back now, it's getting pretty late."

She turns and looks at me with an almost animated face. "Oh c'mon Coopy, just a few more hours~" She slurs. I shake my head. "I'm not arguing with you, Lex. Noah's gonna be worried if we don't get back soon."

She rolls her eyes laughing as she smacks my shoulder playfully. "Oh he's such a stick in the mud! He needs to learn to live a little~"

I groan, as I've had enough. I bend down and grab Lexi by her legs, swinging the drunk over my shoulder. "Hey! What do you think you're..." And after that, she's out like a light.

I carry her back like that the rest of the way to the pod.

Hopefully Jasper and Noah aren't too worried.

I finally make it to the pod and use just my left hand to open the door. I quietly walk in, hoping to not wake the sleeping teens.

"Cooper let me dowwwwwnn~" She slurs in a whisper. She must know to be quiet, I guess she's not that drunk.

I set her to her feet but she still seems to wobble a bit. "Lexi let's get you into bed, alright?" She keeps her eyes closed but drowsily nods and rubs her eyes slightly. I lift her up once again and bring her to her bed. I guess she'll have to sleep in her party clothes.

I pull her white comforter over her body before she giggles hysterically into her hands. "What is it, Lexi?" I whisper in hopes for a quick response.

She continues to giggle. "I have a secret to tell you~" I roll my eyes. She really is out of it. "Okay tell me quick so I can get to bed." I groan.

She waves her hand at me to come closer so she can whisper in my ear. I follow her instructions waiting to hear yet another crazy thing from her drunken voice.

But instead, I am jerked forward a bit. A sudden contact hits my lips and the feeling lingers. Lexi was... kissing me..

I instantly pull away. She's drunk. She doesn't know what she's doing. Lexi giggles. "Gotcha~" She slurs before passing out.

I silently stand up straight and walk over to my bed with a shade of pink dusted across my face. She's drunk. She's drunk. She's drunk. She's drunk. She's drunk. My mind repeats.

I lay down and close my eyes, hoping that my thoughts don't overpower my sleep schedule.
