I Should've Heard It From You

(Lexi's POV)

"Common side affects are throwing up, nose bleeds, migraines and a few other things on this list." My nurse tells me while handing me a sheet of paper and a bottle of pills.

"We don't know much about this virus but we are doing the best to prevent it. I heard the scientists are getting close to a cure for it, so you shouldn't be worried." She smiles and I nod back.

She pats my back. "Well then, that's all the information I have to give you. I bet it'll feel good to fall asleep in your actual bed tonight, huh?" I nod at that as Cooper walks through my hospital room's door.

"Well thank you so much for everything, I'll see you." I wave her goodbye. I turn to Cooper and he gives me a warm smile. "Ready to go?" I nod and we head out.

"Noah and Jasper don't know that you're getting discharged today." Cooper states flatly. I stop in my tracks. "What?" He smirks a little. "I thought it would be a nice surprise considering they have both been pretty on edge since you were put into the ward."

I laugh and continue down the hallway. "They always have something going on." Cooper glances at me. "Maybe once they both get happy to see you, you should tell them about the infection. It's only fair that they know."

I contemplate that and nod. "Yeah this would probably be the best time. Now that I think about it, they must've not told my mom yet because she would be swarming me with motherly love and constant questions." I roll my eyes playfully.

Cooper just laughs. We approach the pod soon after and I get a little nervous to see the boys. A heavy hand squeezes my shoulder. "Don't sweat it." I smile and open the door.

"Hey Cooper what the hell man! You say you're gonna go get us some food and you leave-" Jasper's eyes land on me. "Lexi!?" He runs up and hugs me tightly.

Cooper shoves him. "Careful with the stitches, doofus." He rolls his eyes. "Sorry.."

I giggle a bit. "That's okay.. where's Noah?" Jasper releases himself. "Oh yeah, he left a bit ago to use the bathroom. He should be back soon, though."

I nod at that. "Okay just sit down, we have to talk to you about some-"

*KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK*

"Alexia!?"

*KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK*

"Lexi-bear open this door this instant!"

Cooper rolls his eyes and walks over to the door, opening it. "Cooper hello! Is Lexi here I've been worried sick!" He nods. "Uh... yeah yeah she's here-"

My mother pushes back Cooper in a rush. "Lexi, honey, there you are! The nurses just told me what happened and I've been worried sick! Why didn't you tell me that-"

I hold up a finger to my mouth, indicating for my mother to be quiet.

"Honey stop. No one is judging you! You need to get into bed and stay there until the scientists cure this virus and make sure you're safe!"

The door to the pod squeaks open a bit and shuts. We all turn to the noise. "Virus? What are you talking about?" Noah.

My eyes widen a bit, mostly in rage because my mother had spilled the beans before I could tell Noah myself. "Noah I can explain-"

"Don't!" He interrupts. A look of confusion spreads across my face. Noah starts to tear up. "All I've been hearing in the hallways are rumors about you being infected by a biter! I thought they were all tricks or jokes so I ignored it but how could you!? How could you not tell me before other people!? I'm your own brother and I was worried and-"

His breath hitches.

"..never mind." He squeaks out before running out of the pod.

"Noah wait!" I yell. I attempt to run but Cooper stops me. "Don't run, okay? Your stitches will rip." I sigh and groan into my hands.

Jasper clears his throat. "Hey Lexi? I think I know where Noah may have gone." My eyes widen at that sentence as I wait for him to continue.

"There's a library here in the bunker that he seemed to not want to leave the first time we went there. I think he probably would've gone there."

I nod eagerly. "Thanks Jasp."

"I can go with you, if you want?" Cooper walks with me to the door. I shake my head. "I think I should do this by myself. Now that I think about it, we haven't really had a moment by ourselves since the pharmacy. I'll see you guys later though, okay?" I stand on my tippy toes and kiss Cooper's cheek while walking away shortly after.

Time skip~

(Noah's POV)

She had to of told other people before me if they all knew in the hallway.

And did Cooper know before me too?

I'm her brother... we used to be best friends but now she won't even talk to me...

I whimper into my knees from behind a book shelf and wipe my eyes.

"Noah? Noah are you in here?" I hear Lexi's voice from the entrance of the library. I want to say something but I can't. I just keep sniffling.

I place my head back into my knees but sure enough, foot steps approach me.

I lift my head to see Lexi standing above me, and shortly after, sitting down next to me. "Noah... I'm really sorry you had to find out from those stupid gossipers in the hallway. I mean it when I say that I didn't tell anyone. Cooper, Mom, and the medical staff all found out from the scientists so someone from that list must've slipped it. I'm sorry."

I wipe my eyes and lean my head against the bookshelf behind me. "It's... okay. I'm just... scared."

She nods. "That's understandable. I'm a bit scared too actually. But the scientists said that they were really close to a cure, so I shouldn't be worried."

I smile at that information. "I really hope they're right." Lexi laughs and shoves me. We stay quiet for a moment.

Guilt wraps all around me in just a split second. "Lexi... I need to tell you something."

She raises an eyebrow. "Yeah?"

"Jasper and I... we snuck out when you and Cooper were at the party." I huff.

Lexi shrugs. "You guys have been sneaking out ever since you met. As long as you weren't causing trouble, I don't really care."

I furrow my brows together. "Well uh... that's the thing. We kinda... we're the ones who snuck into the lab that night."

Lexi's whole body goes tense. My eyes start to fill with tears as I feel even more guilty than before. "I-I'm so sorry. I thought maybe w-walking around would cure our boredom. B-But then we went inside and we ruined everything." I put my face into my hands and sob. "I'm so sorry Lexi. I-I didn't want anyone to get hurt. I can't keep bottling this up."

Lexi stays silent for a moment. "You two let out the biter?"

I raise my head and tears still pour, only less. "It was an accident. We found it in an encasement and Jasper accidentally woke it up and-"

Lexi holds up a hand. "Noah, it's okay. I'm not mad at you. Accidents happen."

"Accidents that risk your life?" I croak while wiping my eyes. Lexi huffs. "I'm just glad you're okay. And thank you for telling me."

I just nod. She smiles and pulls me into a hug.

We stand up shortly after and head back to the pod.
