(Jasper's POV)
Arriving to the dinner party was a wreck. Trying to act casual around suspected murderers isn't the easiest thing in the world.
Everyone was standing around a living room in a random residents house. The adults were drinking what looked like to be wine while Noah and I were thrown into the 'play room' designated for kids.
"This is such bullshit. I've killed more biters than half the adults in this house and they're gonna treat me like a kid?" I growl.
Noah elbows me roughly before gesturing towards the other small children in the play room. "You can't say bad words in front of them." He whisper shouts.
I laugh a bit. "I could care less about 'overly exposing' their kids. We're in an apocalypse where people try to eat each other. Swears aren't the worst thing they're gonna witness."
Noah nods. "Yeah, you're probably right."
A little toddler wearing overalls walks up to us quickly and taps my leg to get my attention. "Oh uh... hi." I mumble. I'm not really good with kids whatsoever.
"Hey um... wut dus bullthit mean?" He asks innocently.
Noah begins to giggle a bit, and that turns into a cackle, and that turns into a full on laughing fit.
The little boy stands there with a blank expression. Noah calms down after a bit and smiles at the boy, picking him up. "It's a word you should never say. If you do, a scary monster will come and eat you!" He says while tickling the boy.
The boy laughed but then his face turned a ghostly white. "B-but I sayed it..." He stammers.
Noah shakes his head and ruffles the toddlers hair. "No, you can only say it once. But if you say it a second time, then the monster will come and find you."
"Oh! Dats good! Dat means I won't get eated!" He smiles widely and giggles.
Noah hugs the toddler and I can't but smile at the interaction. After a bit, I glance around the bland playroom.
"Are you as bored as I am?" I state blankly.
Noah glances at me then nods. "Yeah but it's not like we can go talk to Lexi and Cooper."
"Hmm... yeah we'd get put back in here..." I roll my eyes. Then it hits me.
"Well... we can't go to the party... but we can leave right?"
Noah perks up a bit at the idea. "Anything's better than babysitting right now." He laughs.
"Okay, we can probably sneak out a back door or something. I think I saw a door by their mud room."
Noah nods. We both stand up and Noah pats the toddler's head before saying a goodbye.
We open the door a smidge while peeking out to make sure no one was looking. Once the coast was clear, we bolted to the backdoor. We made it there quickly and rushed outside, shutting the door behind us.
Noah and I both let out exasperated breaths before the boy next to me begins to cackle. "This is unlike me." He grins.
"Alright so what to do now?" He inquires.
I take a look around the town. It's not quite dark yet but it has a golden glow from the setting sun. I glance over to the timber outside of the walls.
"Hey uh... you wanna go to the forest?" I say blankly. His eyes widen. "That's what you thought of? The most dangerous place for us to be?"
I laugh. "Well damn Noah, there isn't exactly much to do in this town."
