Accompanying Our Peers

(Jasper's POV)

I know I put on a chill face for Noah, but I am gonna be cautious with these people this time. Considering what happened the last time.

We take a seat in two empty spots near the other kids. A few of them glance over to us.

"Oh hey, it's the newbies." I heard one of them whisper. Noah and I just begin to eat our breakfast. I hear someone clear their throat, I glance up from my food to see a thin blonde boy about our age sitting diagonally from me.

"So uh... you guys came here yesterday didn't you? You knew Denise Ashwell somehow right?" He inquires.

"Ah yeah, that would be my Mom." Noah says plainly. The blonde nods. "I'm Ezra." He holds out his hand. I shake it and then Noah does. "I'm Jasper and he's Noah." I say while taking a sip of my orange juice.

Ezra nods towards the rest of his peers and they speak up soon after. "I'm Calvin." A red headed, and a bit more buff boy says. A very young girl hops out of her seat excitedly. "My name's Aria but you can call me Ari!" She smiles widely. She looks past me and towards Noah. "Omigosh he's so handsomeee!" She says while drawing out the "handsome" a bit. I just look at Noah's embarrassed face and laugh. He mumbles a soft thank you.

A girl with black hair, and the front pieces dyed green, speaks up after looking up from her book. "I'm Rae, nice to meet you." She says plainly before going back to reading. Lastly, a seemingly tall and thin boy speaks up. His hair is a bit longer and it gives off a blackish/blue tint.

"I'm Ryder. I didn't think anyone else was out there until you guys showed up." Ryder chuckles while whipping the hair from his face, revealing a few piercings on his ears.

"There's plenty of people out there, but we learned first hand how untrustworthy some can be, right Noah?" I chuckle. Noah nods and laughs a bit too.

"You don't talk much do ya? We don't bite y'know?" Ryder grins at Noah. Noah's smile drops a bit. "I'm just a listener I guess." He shrugs.

I catch Ryder glance down at Noah's wrist, most likely noticing his scar from the biter.

"Is that... a bite mark?" Ryder mumbles which gets everyone to instantly stare at Noah.

Noah tenses up before glancing at his scar.

Is it... safe for him to talk about his immunity? Maybe we should talk about it in private first...

"Uh... yeah it's a bite mark. It's just-"

"He was bit by his dog a few years back. Left a bitchin' scar." I interrupt. Noah gives me a confused look but just nods his head.

"Huh..." Ryder mumbles. "It doesn't really look like-"

"Whatcha reading, Rae?" I decide to change the subject.

We all make light conversation for the rest of breakfast. Hopefully Ryder, or the others, aren't suspicious.

(Cooper's POV)

Lexi and I were going to sit with Noah and Jasper, but it seems that they've already made friends here. We spot a table that's only half filled with people who seem to be pretty approachable.

Lexi's body thinks before mine and walks over to the table, sitting down.

"Oh hi! Y'all must be the new additions. I'm Darla, it's lovely to meet you." A cheery woman with a bigger build and short hair chuckles. Lexi and I smile back. "Thank you so much. I'm Lexi and this-"
"I'm Cooper." I cut her off. I'm capable of introducing myself.

A woman with blonde braided hair speaks up. "I'm Rosa, and this is my baby Julian." She holds up the baby I didn't even notice her holding until now. Lexi let's out an 'awwww' before the rest of the people continue.

"My name's Watson. I'm actually one of the assistant's for the disease lab." A man with glasses and red hair says. "I'm Sheri. I help out in the medical ward."

Lexi and I both nod and smile. The realization soon hits me though. "Medical ward? We didn't see that when we were shown around." I question.

"They never show you everything when you're first shown around. This place is huge once you get to looking at it. There's also a day care center for the children, a weapon training room, where you basically throw knives at targets and shoot guns. And there's plenty of other stuff." Darla grins.

"Damn and I thought this place was huge already." Lexi says in awe. I just chuckle at that.

Sooner or later, we all finish our breakfast and Lexi and I decide to take a look around this place.

(Noah's POV)

Jasper and I have been walking the halls with our new peers for awhile now looking for something to do.

We come across the library, which was actually completely empty at the moment. I eye it but the group keeps walking. Rae seems to notice.

"Guys can we go to the library? I wanna get a new book and Noah seems like he wants to go too." My face goes red. I don't wanna seem like a burden.

The whole group eyes us like we are stupid. "Oh come on! You guys don't even have to read y'know? Nobody is in there right now so we can do whatever." She says annoyed.

The group looks at each other before deciding that that's a pretty good idea. We all trot into the library and I admire the beautiful tree in the center of it.

Maybe I should look for medical books. I already know a lot but maybe I could learn more and help out in the medical ward, so i'll actually have something to do.

I trot around the library until I see a small sign that says, Medical Health/Mental Health.

I scan my finger across the aisle of books before stopping on one. Medical Basics. Includes how to clean and wrap a cut, what medicine to take for what situations, and tons more!

I decide to grab that book and I sit down on a bench and start to read it.

A hand ruffles my hair and I jump. "Hey Noah, whatcha reading?" Jasper asks while taking a seat and glancing at the book.

"You know you're already really good at all that stuff." He laughs. I roll my eyes. "Even so, I need something to do here, and maybe the medical ward wouldn't bore me to death as much as walking around empty halls does."

We continue to talk before Ryder walks up to us. "Hey. I wanted to tell you guys that a few of the others are heading back to their pods. Rae and I are staying to read for a little while longer and it seems like Noah is pretty glued to that book. So Jasper you could head back and Rae and I could make sure he gets back to you if you wanted." He smiles.

I actually like that idea, Jasper has been talking a lot and I'm trying to read.

Jasper gives Ryder a weird look for some reason before standing up. "Whatever." He walks out of the library, and he didn't seem too happy.

"Oh maybe I should check on h-"

"He'll be fine Noah, just go back to reading." He grins and walks away. I nod and sit back down, continuing to read.
