(Cooper's POV)
After hearing about the incident with Noah's nose, I ended up helping train the kids for the rest of the day.
Just as I was finishing, I saw Lexi wave me a hello from the distance. I look at her with a bit of concern. I wish she would stay in and rest.
She jogs up to me while I wave a few kids goodbye. "Lex, you really should be at home." I huff. She rolls her eyes playfully. "C'mon babe, I'm fine. I'm barely even pregnant yet."
I nod. "Yeah yeah, I know. Just don't worry me too much. Anyway, how is Noah doing?" Lexi sighs. "He's okay, nothing's broken. Jasper's at home with him now and keeping him company."
"That's good. That kid has gone through too much lately. Did you ever get a chance to talk to him about.. your mom?" I inquire. Lexi just shrugs. "I didn't really get a chance. I plan to soon-"
A sudden boom fills the air. Lexi and I glance at each other in worry. "What was that?" She mumbles. I quirk up an eyebrow as screams fill the air. Lexi starts towards the noise before I stop her. "No. You go the other way and head back to the house, just in case. I'm not putting you at risk."
She gives me an annoyed look but decides to agree with me. "Be careful." She huffs. I give her a long kiss before releasing her and letting her head back home.
I immediately sprint up the way where the noise was coming from. People run past me towards their houses and I grab someone, pulling them aside.
"What's going on?!" I shout over the noise. The woman is crazy distressed. "T-There we're people in these masks and military looking suits! We didn't notice them at first b-but they shot someone and-"
"Shot who?" I cut her off. "J-Just another resident. They're still here though! Please sir, help us!" She cries while tearing away from me and booking it to her house. My heart rate increases rapidly as I snatch a loaded gun from a table full of organized weapons.
I walk slowly towards the commotion and hide behind a fence. I peek around it to see the masked men in question.
Are these the bunker people? It would make sense; they did say they would come back.
They had a few hostages and seemed like they were just waiting around for someone to show up. I notice one of the people pull a walkie talkie from their pocket and hold it up to their face.
"Come in. We have a few hostages here that we'll kill soon. Anyone you see, finish them off. Denise, her kids, and their ally's are here as well. You will search them for the antidote and then kill them all." The voice says.
"Copy that." Another voice replies. My heart drops to my stomach. Lexi only just headed back to the house! What if they got to her?!
I decide to slowly retreat away from the masked soldiers. Jasper and Noah are at home, there's no way Lexi already made it home, and I'm here.
I decide to head the opposite direction and grab a few more weapons on the way to Carlos' office.
(Lexi's POV)
At this point, I'm sprinting down the sidewalk. Just before I can make it to my house, I see a few masked men searching around a few houses.
Shit.
I move myself behind a large tree. More and more soldiers begin to search around the perimeter. It looks like they're sending one soldier in per house.
Suddenly, I hear a noise and my head cocks the other way immediately. A masked soldier, coming my way! They haven't yet. I look up and decide to climb the tree as quietly as possible.
It was pretty easy to climb because the branches were so evenly distributed. I make it up far enough and look down. The soldier was right there. They was glancing around and suddenly they pull out a walkie talkie.
"I haven't seen any residents yet, or any of Denise's family for that matter." They grumble.
The masked soldier walks away and I let out a sigh of relief. I better just stay up here until I know I can come down.
(Jasper's POV)
Noah and I have been on high alert since we heard multiple gunshots. Shit. Just when we think we can catch a break.
I locked the front door right as it happened but we're both pretty terrified. Why haven't Cooper or Lexi come home?
We are both hiding behind the kitchen counter with weapons in hand. Me, a machete, and Noah, a large kitchen knife.
I glance at one of the many closed curtains at the front of the house. I turn to Noah. "I'm gonna go see if anyone is outside. Stay put." I say while grabbing my weapon. I crouch a bit and make my way over to the window by the front door.
I look at the door and check the lock again, just in case. I turn back to the window and grab at the curtain slowly. I barely peel out of it, in fear of getting caught.
Just when I think no one is there, a military looking masked person is holding a gun and walking down the side walk. I back up a bit in surprise, hoping they didn't see me.
I crawl back to Noah. "We've got company. We need to-"
A jiggling begins on the door handle. My heart drops at the noise. "We need to hide somewhere. I think they're looking for us." I state. If these are the bunker people, then they are no doubt trying to kill us for what we stole.
Just as Noah and I stand up, a banging is heard on the door. Like... they're trying to knock it down.
I grab his hand quickly and make it down the hallway a bit. I glance at the small cleaning supply closet and decide on that.
I don't say I word, I just shove Noah and I inside and shut the door. There, unfortunately, is no way to lock it from the inside. Hopefully they don't look here.
A huge bang is heard from down the hall. They knocked the door down.
I squeeze Noah's hand tightly while my other one grips my machete.
A/N- cliffhanger😈😈 I hope y'all liked this little chapter hehehehehe😫
