After quite a long ride, and tons of questions from Lexi, our flight came to a stopping point. We arrived about an hour ago.
From the sky, the base looked a lot smaller than it actually is.

I also didn't expect it to look the way it did either. When the armed men said "military base", I expected to see a bunch of tanks and weapons and shit. This base sort of reminded me of Carlos' town, only way bigger.
There were a lot of military tanks and weapons though, as I thought. They were just more towards another part of this place.
We've been in this base, or town, for a little over an hour now. A few others from Carlos' town have come along so far as well.
We didn't have our own house like before, as there were a ton of people. It seemed like the whole entire population of Cali was cramped in this base.
Noah and I have to live in a kids house while Cooper and Lexi live with adults in another. It's pretty fucking annoying, but since they aren't our legal guardians then it's the rules.
We do happen to be just down the street from each other so it's not that big of a deal.
The town has tons of rules. No going out after curfew, no handling weapons unless supervised by someone of authority, no PDA, no foul language, and so on.
I'm not sure why some of these rules are necessary to be honest.
At the moment, Noah and I are just sitting in our room. Well... not just our room... we share a room with five other kids as well.
It gets a bit irritating. Noah and I share a bed now ever since the kid he used to share with started wetting himself every night. What a nightmare.
"Kids, listen up." Carley, a sort of babysitter, says. "There is a meeting being lead by the soldiers later at the town hall, so make sure you show up. It'll happen a bit after dinner." She smiles.
Carley is basically a babysitter who lives in the house with us. She's supposed to supervise us older, and apparently troublemaking types, and nurture the younger ones.
Noah stands up and stretches, just before stepping on a square toy alphabet block. "Ow, fuck!" He hisses. Carley gives him a sharp look. There's the foul language rule for ya.
He holds up his hands defensively and whispers out an apology.
She just nods and walks away.
"Let's go for a walk or something." I mumble, wanting to get away from the ruckus. Who knew kids could be so obnoxiously loud?
Noah nods and we maneuver ourselves around the many children.
(Lexi's POV)
Cooper and I had just settled into our room at what people call the 'adult house.' Houses are separated by age, which I think is incredibly stupid.
Cooper walks through the door with a few small things. "Hey, I was just told that there is a town meeting after dinner. Just don't let me forget."
I nod. "I'll remember. Hopefully they tell us a bit about this place." Cooper pulls me into an unexpected hug. "Um.. Cooper? Something wrong?"
"Nah, not at all. I'm just glad that we may be in the clear for once in our fucking lives." He pulls away and glances down at my belly slightly.
"And that means our little family will definitely survive this living hell." Cooper smiles. I giggle. "There was never a doubt."
Cooper and I kissed for awhile before the door was rudely burst open. "Hey! Don't you know how to knock?!" Cooper yells, frustrated from the interruption. A small woman stands in the doorway.
"S-Sorry. I just wanted to let you know that dinner will be served in about an hour and a half." She mumbles, scarcely. Cooper rolls his eyes and nods. She shuts the door awkwardly without another word.
"Jesus, these people. I'm starting to think we were all better off as just the four of us." I laugh at Cooper's remarks. "We'll get used to it, don't worry."
Time skip~
After finishing dinner, everyone gathered in this school gymnasium not far from the houses. Everyone was seated in the bleachers and a few extra folding chairs.
"The most of you have just arrived today, as you know. We wanted to have this meeting to discuss what our future plans are for you all." A military looking guy says into a megaphone.
Throughout the meeting, he talked about bringing everything back to the way it was almost a year ago. The rest of the world was obviously infected, but with us closed off and heavily guarded, we have a hell of a good chance of going back to normal.
He mentioned other bases scattered around nearby just like this one. The military's plans are to eventually merge all of the bases into one large group. It would almost be like a whole state, uninfected.
The meeting went on and on until it was finally over. At the end, everyone stood up and clapped. It was exciting. We're going to survive! Maybe for a hell of lot longer then we once expected.
