(Lexi's POV)
Waking up has never felt so relaxing. I sit up in my bed and stretch my arms. An alarm clock sits nearby.
8:37 a.m.
I look over to see Cooper laying on his side while facing me from his bed. His hair is... everywhere... and his mouth hangs a bit open while he sleeps. I laugh at that as I rub the sleep from my eyes.
I decide that I'm not tired anymore and slowly gather my shower caddy and change of clothes. I quietly exit my "hexagon" room and leave our pod entirely.
Making my way to the communal bathrooms, I notice my mom sitting on a bench nearby.
"Good morning Mom." I yawn. She glances up from her book. "Good morning dear, come sit with me." She smiles.
"Oh well uh... I was about to shower-"
"It'll only be a second." She grins.
I sigh in defeat and trot over to her, taking my seat next to her. "Whatcha reading?" I ask out of curiosity.
"That's not important, let's catch up. I only talked to you a little bit yesterday. You seemed to be focusing your attention on Noah and... the other two." She mumbles.
I roll my eyes, making sure she doesn't notice. "They have names you know. Jasper is the one that's Noah's age, and Cooper is a bit older than me. Why do you not like them anyway?"
She gives me a look before sighing. "It's just... they look so... dangerous. You and Noah are good kids and I don't want you getting hurt. I can already tell that Jasper is a trouble maker, considering that he must've influenced Noah to sass me like that yesterday. I don't know much about Cooper but he can't be too different than Jasper."
I pinch the bridge of my nose and squint my eyes. Why is she like this?
"First off, I'm not a kid. I turned eighteen awhile ago. I'm able to make my own judgements on people. That doesn't just go for me either, Noah is aloud to also. The only reason why he sassed you yesterday was because he was eager to keep his family together. Our family." I look away.
"Honey, you're hardly an adult. If this break out didn't happen you would still be living at home, paying rent, and working at McDonald's. And I'm your family. I don't care that you all bonded or whatever. I'm not trying to lecture you, because I know you're a smart girl. But those... thugs... aren't your family, Noah and I are." She smiles innocently.
It's too early for this shit.
"Mom are you joking? They are hardly thugs. Cooper taught me how to fight and protect myself. He's also been quite the fatherly figure to Noah these past few months. That's for you to ask Noah about though. And Jasper, he's been nothing but helpful. He mainly taught Noah how to protect himself. Noah actually told me himself that Jasper has saved his life a few times and helped him through panic attacks like the ones he had back at home."
She just stares at me in awe, like I'm shocking her with my independence.
"What I'm trying to say is, you really wouldn't know anything about what has been going on with us for the past few months. So you have no room to judge our... new family members." I finish and slump into my seat, looking at anything but her.
"Well... I guess maybe I should respect your judgement, and Noah's at that." I look up at her in shock. Did she actually listen to my opinion?
"I'll also try to talk to Noah later, and maybe even Jasper and Cooper. To clear the air, y'know?" She sighs.
I let out a breath of relief and smile. "Thanks Mom. I'm gonna go shower now." She nods as I get up and walk away. That was unexpected.
Short time skip~
I walk out of the women's restroom after getting dressed after my shower. I run my fingers through my hair. How is that water pressure so good? Holy shit-
Sudden impact shoves me to the ground. I look up to see Cooper standing above me.
"Ah shit- sorry Lex." He reaches his hand out and I take it as he pulls up up. "Sorry I wasn't paying attention." He chuckles.
I giggle a bit too. "No that's okay haha."
"Hey I saw you leave earlier this morning, where'd you go?" He asks as we walk together towards the cafeteria. "I just went to take a shower, I caught my mom on the way there though. She had a lot to say." I say sheepishly.
"Oh? What did you guys talk about?" Cooper asks. I rub the back of my neck. "She had a lot of... thoughts... about you and Jasper but I shut them down immediately. She actually said that she wants to talk to you two later on. I'm not sure when though..." I trail off.
He nods. "I guess I'll have to warn Jasper to actually be polite for once." He grins with a laugh. "Whatever Cooper, because you are definitely polite all the time." I say sarcastically. "Hey!" He laughs and nudges me.
I was about to say something else before a man in a lab coat appeared. "Excuse me. Are you not aware that the lab is right here and you both are laughing like fools! Important research is happening! Go along, eat your breakfast, and shut your mouths!"
Cooper and I stare in awe before trotting away and mumbling "sorry's". Once we were far enough we stopped and looked at each other with blank expressions. That soon changed when we busted out laughing.
"PFFT-" "BAHAHAHAHAHAHA-"
We laughed the rest of the way to the cafeteria.
(Noah's POV)
I stared in shock as a lunch lady placed a fresh omelet on my plate. "You're holding up the line." She grumbles. I snap out of it instantly. "A-ah right... sorry."
Jasper just laughs as he gives the lunch lady a thank you for his omelet. Once we have all of our food, we look for a place to sit. The cafeteria was pretty packed, considering a ton of people live here.
Jasper and I both seem to notice some kids in our age group at the same time. He looks more excited than me though.
"Hey don't worry about it. I wont let them try anything like last time." He reassures. I nod as we make our way over to them.
The PTSD I'm getting from this situation is amazing.
