Escaping The Bunker: Part 2

(Cooper's POV)

Lexi and I are basically ripping this damn lab apart trying to find the antidote.

"Have you found anything yet?" Lexi questions from across the room. I shake my head in frustration. "No. Damnit they were stupid enough to leave a literal biter in here, why can't they be stupid enough to leave their antidote out in the open?"

The biter in the tube won't stop growling at us. I grunt in annoyance and turn to it. "Can you please shut the hell up?!"

"Cooper be quiet! Here, I found a safe under this counter. Help me try and open it." Lexi sighs in relief. I nod and trot over to her before hearing a clicking sound by the door.

Lexi and I both shoot our heads towards the noise, only to see the lab's door being opened. "Shit." I whisper before pushing Lexi and I under the counter with the safe. Out of sight from whoever was entering.

"Wha-"

"Shh."

Quiet footsteps enter the lab. "I can't believe the boss is having us inspect the lab again. It's late.. can't we just say that we did it?" One male voice says.

"Afraid not. Let's just take a look around. It's not like anyone is going to be here anyway so there's nothing to worry about." A female voice retorts.

Lexi looks at me with a 'what do we do now' sort of look. I pinch the bridge of my nose while thinking.

It was hard to think with that damn biter growling at us.

Wait.

The biter.

I snap my finger as I found the solution leaving a confused Lexi. I grab my hand gun from my pants.

Lexi sees and instantly smothers me in whispers. "Cooper no. Don't hurt these people. They don't-"

I hold my finger up to my lips. "That's not what I'm doing."

"Alright you check the back of the lab and I'll check the front." The woman says. Perfect. I quickly crawl over to the biter's tube. His growling only gets worse which isn't really helpful but I'll just work fast.

"That damn biter seems on edge tonight." The man says. I hear the woman hum in response, meaning that she was close enough.

I put my gun up to the lock and pulled the trigger. Boom. A loud echo filled the lab as I crawled back to Lexi quickly. "Grab the safe." I whisper as we both crawl around the corner of the counter.

"What the-" The woman begins before I hear her gasp. My plan had worked. A large roar from the biter is heard. That should keep them distracted while we escape.

Lexi and I see the man run to the back of the lab to help secure the biter. Our chance. We both nod at each other and book it to the door. The man and the woman were still attempting to restrain the biter. I looked back to see that the monster had pinned the man to the ground. No... that wasn't supposed to happen. Aren't these people meant to deal with these things?!

"Johnny, no!" The woman shouts.

I hold up my gun and fire it three times at the biter's head. Bullseye. The biter falls on top of the man. Johnny lets out quick breaths while trying to get the creature off of him.

Lexi and I look at each other and nod. We run out of the lab instantly and make our way towards where Jasper was supposed to keep an eye out.

I hear the woman shouting from the lab. She probably had noticed the safe in Lexi's hand. Now that I take a better look at Lexi, I see how awful she looks.

Don't get me wrong, she's beautiful. But right now in this very moment, her face is a ghostly white and her eyes are droopier than ever. I shove my gun in my holster and grab the safe. "What're you-"

"You don't look so good. Let's just get out of here before anything else happens." She gives a confused look but nods anyway.

We eventually round a corner to find Ms. Ashwell, Noah, Jasper, and..

"Who the hell is that?" I say and all eyes shoot to Lexi and I. The three of them instantly stand up and hug us tightly.

"We thought we killed you guys!" Jasper's voice muffles into my shirt. We all release. "It's alright. We made it out with zero scratches. Who's..." I glance at the passed out boy once again.

"That's Ryder." Noah says simply. "Yeah.. but why is he-"

"He attacked me because he saw me spying on the lab. I would've died if Ms. Ashwell didn't lend me a hand." Jasper interrupts. Lexi glances back and forth and Ryder and Ms. Ashwell. "Mom!" She says in a surprised but almost impressed manor.

"We don't have time to talk anymore. Let's get to the exit and get the hell out of here." Everyone nods and we all begin sprinting down the hallway to our destination.

We didn't see much of anyone in the halls. There were a few stray people around but they didn't question us.

We eventually reach the enter/exit hall. We all take a look around before booking it to the large metal door.

I open the heavy door as fast as I can. "Noah, go." Noah doesn't argue and instantly starts up the ladder. Jasper follows. Then Ms. Ashwell. Then Lexi. And I of course enter last.

Alarms begin to blare across the bunker. "Get a move on!" I yell from the bottom while shutting the metal door. I didn't blame Lexi for going slow considering her condition.

"I'm at the top!" Noah yells after a few minutes of climbing. I'm about halfway up the ladder when I hear something fiddling with the door. "Hurry up and open it! We don't have much time!" I holler.

I hear the latch squeak open and the moonlight peers through. Lexi and I are the last to make it out. She carefully steps out of the latch and steadies herself. "C'mon Coop."

I nod and begin to pull myself up. A sudden pain hits my leg which stops me. I look down to see a security guard with a gun. Ms. Ashwell and Lexi pull me up and slam the latch shut.

I grunt in pain. "Let's fucking go." The help me to the back seat of the car and set me in the middle, while they sit on the other side of me. Jasper sits in the driver's seat and Noah sits in the passenger.

Jasper punches the gas pedal and we speed down the road. "Before you ask, the most I ever got was my permit. So we'll be... fine.. probably." He says over the loud engine.

I stare down at my thigh and see blood oozing into the seat. Lexi grabs something and shoves it against my wound. I can't tell what because my vision is blurring. "I'm gonna keep some pressure on it."

I attempt a nod but I end up dropping my head into my knees. Blacking out.

A/N- I hope you enjoyed this little escape chapter ;) I honestly don't know where this book is going so we'll just have to see it through :D ANYWAY.. stay posted.
