(Jasper's POV)

Cooper and I stare at Noah, Lexi, and their... Mom... before making our way towards them. They are all still embraced in a tight hug, and light whimpers and sniffles are audible.

They finally release all wiping their eyes, wide smiles spread across their faces. I take a moment to examine their mother. She is short and slim, taller than Noah but shorter than Lexi. She has shoulder length chestnut hair, and light freckles across her nose like Noah. Noah and Lexi also have her brown eyes.

Lexi and Noah look over at Cooper and I. "Mom, this is Cooper and Jasper." She says while pointing to the two of us. "We've known them for a few months now.  When we were separated from you, they were basically the first people we met. They protected us and gave us a home." Lexi smiles to us.

Their mother nods and turns to us. "It's lovely to meet you both. I'm Denise Ashwell." She then shakes Cooper's hand, and then mine.

"Thank you for taking care of my children. I'm very appreciative. Before you leave, I do want to show my thanks with-"

"Leave?" I interrupt.

She just blinks at me in shock. "Uh well.. yes? I'm grateful for your protection over Noah and Lexi but it won't be needed anymore. I have a whole group, so we'll be okay." She smiles in a reassuring way.

"I don't think you understand ma'am, we aren't just protection. Right guys?" I look to Lexi and Noah.

Lexi clears her throat and nods. "Yes Mom, I did say that they protected us, but they have also been family. We have been looking out for each other this whole time, and we trust each other."

She gives Lexi a look. "Lexi, I'm not just gonna let some strangers into this group. They look like thugs." She attempts to whisper.

I scoff. "I'm sorry we didn't dress correctly for the apocalypse." The sarcasm slipping through my teeth.

Noah's mom gives me an appalled look before stating. "See? This toxicity will not happen in my group. So my decision is final."

I look over to Cooper for an answer, but he seems as shocked as I am.

"Mom no-"

"That's not happening." Noah interrupts Lexi. I look at him surprised, is he gonna stand up to his mom?

"Noah? Check the attitude, hun." She says.

"No. No I won't. Mom, I'm so happy to see you! I thought you were gone for good. But you can't just kick out the only family we've had in months! They didn't only protect us, but they taught us how to protect ourselves!"

Everyone around is silent, and all eyes are on the chestnut haired boy.

"S-so... if they won't stay.. then neither will I." He mutters.

I stare at him and his mother in awe, waiting for her response.

She looks between Me, Cooper, Lexi and Noah before sighing. "Very well, you can stay. Any slip ups, though, and I'll see you out."

I smile and sigh in relief. I glance over to Noah and smile, pulling him into a short hug.

"We can help fix up your car, and we can all be on our way to our base." Their mother smiles cheerfully.

"That's appreciated, thank you." Cooper says, while releasing Lexi from a hug. Their Mom gives a questionable look to the duo before turning to talk to a man on a motorcycle.

Short time skip~

Noah and I sit in the backseat of the car while Cooper and one of the motorcyclists work on the vehicle.
