We Have Some News

(Lexi's POV)

"Lexi you seem to just be reacting to the symptoms we talked about normally. You probably were in a bit of shock from thinking about it and that's what made you weak last night. Nothing to worry about."

I nod at my nurse while Cooper leans against the room's wall. "Just keep taking your medication. Like I said before, the scientists are coming close... so there's nothing to-"

Suddenly, the door swings open, revealing two exasperated teens. Jasper and Noah.

"Guys... we need to uhm... talk to you. Right now." Jasper pants.

Cooper and I exchange confused looks. "Get on with it." Cooper says unamused. The boys look awkwardly around the room. "In private... like in the pod..." Noah mumbles.

Oh no what did they do...

"You can go on ahead, I was about to release you anyway." Says the nurse with a warm smile. I nod at her. "Thank you ma'am."

The four of us walk quickly down the hallway. Once we reach our pod, Jasper shoves us inside quickly and slams the door.

"What the fuck is wrong with-"

"Shhhh." Jasper interrupts Cooper while cautiously closing the shade on the little window attached to the door.

Cooper and I sit on my bed and Noah and Jasper sit on Cooper's right across from us. "What we are going to tell you must stay in this room." Jasper starts.

"Enough beating around the bush... just say it." I say encouragingly.

"All right..."

And then they explained everything. How their friends Rae and Ezra had snuck into a lab and stole a textbook. How that textbook showed us what was real and what was fake. And how we were going to save my life using its information.

I place my hand to my forehead. "That was... a lot to take in. And I don't get it... why would they keep an antidote secret that could save the world?"

Cooper leans back on the bed. "To keep people less greedy."

Jasper perks up. "What do you mean?" Cooper sits up again and creases his eyebrows, thinking.

"Think about it. If they told everyone in this place that they had an antidote ready, a small one at that, then they would all get greedy. They would be attempting to use it on turned family members, or just want to have it in case they somehow get bit."

"That explanation would make the most sense." I say while thinking. "So... what are we going to do about it now..."

"What do you mean? We're obviously gonna save your ass with it." Cooper interjects. I raise my eyebrows in shock. "But... there isn't much of it and they obviously-"

"obviously were never going to use it." Noah interrupts. "I think you deserve to use it... considering they've been lying to you and everyone else this whole time."

I just stare at my feet a bit and think. I don't want to use it if no one else can... that wouldn't be fair to everyone else who has lost someone..

"We don't have to use it all... if that what you're worried about." Cooper interrupts. I look up at him confused. "If we use most of it, but not all, then that would leave enough in the syringe for the scientists to still use. They would be able to get the same ingredients from it and make more."

"Yeah.. that could work. And it would be fair." I mumble. They all nod at me. I crease my eyebrows while in my thoughts.

"Are you still worried about something Lexi?" Jasper asks. I nod. "What will we do once we use it on me? The scientists will know by then that I had stolen it and used it... so we would have to leave before we got into huge trouble. And... what about mom? We can't tell her what we're up to now so we can't warn her about having to leave. I want her to come with us but I'm not sure that she would be so willing. She might even tell the scientists before we get a chance to escape."

Cooper sighs, also recognizing the inconvenience. "Let's uh... let's cross that bridge when we come to it Lex. I'm sure that she would choose you over this place any day. I know I would."

Noah and Jasper roll their eyes at the cheesiness. "Cooper what the hell- when did you start acting like that..." Jasper mocks. "It is pretty embarrassing." Noah agrees. Cooper stares them both down with creased eyebrows.

"Stop acting like you guys aren't the cheesiest people ever. 'Don't worry I'll make sure Noah feels better' 'Oh let me go hug Noah for the thousandth time today'." Cooper mocks Jasper.

Jasper's expression goes blank and he just stares straight ahead. His face turns beet red. "S-Shut up Cooper!" He squeaks out. Noah looks at Jasper with wide eyes, also beet red.

"L-Let's just not talk about-"

"Noah since when do you not want to talk about Jasper." I decide to tease as well. "All you ever do is rant to me at any chance you get. 'Oh Jasper was so sweet today.' 'He always acts so tough but he's just a softie.' 'He makes me feel better all the time' 'He-"

"LEXI OH MY GOD SHUT UP." Noah stands up and bolts out of the pod all embarrassed. I laugh at my succession in embarrassing him. Jasper stands up shorty after. "Y-yeah I'm not sitting in here with you guys alone." And with that, he trots out as well.

Cooper and I instantly laugh hysterically. "BAHAHAHAA DID YOU- DID YOU SEE THEIR FACES BAHAHAHAHAA." "Y-YEAH THEY WERE SO RED I'M DYING"

The boys didn't come back for awhile after that. I don't blame them for trying to get away from us after we teased them. I would probably do the same.

I calm down my laughing and smile at the fact that we are all going back to normal.
